I had the test done last month. It was positive but my recurrence was found right after the blood draw so that was expected. My oncologist is doing the test for me every few months as treatment has been suspended until it shows up again.

I just wanted to update after seeing my oncologist and asking her to give me a ctdna test every 3 months since CEA is not a good indicator for me.

She was not a fan of the idea. She said they were all super excited about it a while back, but it hasn’t played out the way that they had hoped. She said that if I get it, I need to be prepared to receive an elevated number but have no clue what that number means in terms of a reoccurrence.

She also said to be sure that my insurance will cover it because she has had patients call their insurance company, be told that it is covered and then get billed for the full cost after the fact.

So my husband is going to call our insurance company and if they say it is covered, he will get the name of the exact brand they approve, get a confirmation number and also the name of the person who he talks to on the phone. If he does that, my oncologist will order the test for me.

I will post any updates on this post to help future members when they are searching.
