Happened to my mum both times she was on chemo . Caused by the chemo itself . Her CEA was always low but did rise each time . It was an anxious time but each year her scans showed significant shrinkage.

Hi Sam, mine was higher than when starting folfox and after 8 rounds still high. One thing a forum member brought to my attention was the MCV panel of your bloodwork. If it rises =>10 then good sign chemo is working. I found the NCI paper on MCV and chemo. Look it up.

Chemo itself can cause a rise after an initial decrease . My mum’s tumours were no longer visible on the scan but her CEA went higher than ever . It happened both years .

Hi ,
Tumour death can release CEA cells into the blood stream which can cause a rise during chemo or I think just chemo itself can do it . My mum’s tumour markers don’t rise much even with a spread but got up to 11 each year she was on chemo . I notice your markers are quite low too !
Given your good scan recently and slower growing nature so some lung mets I would hold onto that . The radiology evidence is usually more reliable .
