Lung mets - Coughing up Material ?

Postby sdino » Fri May 08, 2020 8:05 am

Weird thing happened yesterday morning. My Wife got out of bed and coughed up a 1.0cm x 0.5cm little worm rubbery looking thing with alittle light colored blood. She feels great. I don't think its mucuous, it's alittle harder than that. It was off-white colored. Several lung mets are bigger than 2cm's. Now, on her TIL trial NCT01174121, her many bilateral lung mets are getting obilerated = 36% reduction. We have a CT scan chest on May 18th. Has anyone EVER heard of coughing up tumor material ? or is it even possible ?

Don't recall specifically anyone saying they had ... BUTT..
on this cancer Journey I would have to say anything could be possible !

If the tumours were related to the lung airways then any degenerating material "could" end up in an air passage and be expelled with a cough
( e.g. phlegm and mucus when there is infection )

I do know folks have mentioned "passing" tumour tissues from rectosigmoid and low descending colon, when they were being treated.

SO ... yes anything could be possible

It sounds like a mucous plug. DH had a tumor semi-blocking the lower lung on the right side and you could see the mucous plugging on the CT scan. It gets impacted and gets pretty solid. he coughed up some after having pneumonia and it was pretty gross. Similar in color to what you said and had some blood tinge. He coughed up a few clots too after his lung resection. Also disgusting looking but far bloodier.
