Back 2nd time

Postby Andrea1976 » Tue May 12, 2020 3:12 pm

Hi,

Unfortunately I am back again. Almost 5 years ago I had a cancerous polyp / mushroom type. The cancer was confined to the head, clear stalk. So it was treated by removal only. No surgery. That’s what my cancer center recommended. Every colonoscopy was good until today. I had a clear colonoscopy 2.5 years ago. Tumor was found today. I expect that it might be local reoccurrence since is at the same location. I am having CT scan and blood tests today. Meeting surgical onco tomorrow at the cancer center.
Anybody has had this happen before? I did genetic testing and negative. Also what are the updates for treatments? I hope a lot new options during last 5 years. Thank you.

Hi ,

Sorry to see you back . That is disappointing for sure . However good screening has hopefully got this .
I am not too aware of treatment changes for lower stages . Definitely some interesting developments for stage 4 patients with immunotherapy etc , but similar approach as before I would think .

Hopefully others will be along ,
Take care ,

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you are back but there’s plenty of room for optimism that it will be relatively early.

In my case their were some similarities. I had a pre cancerous polyp removed that showed high grade dysplasia. Clean scopes for 5 years and then a Tumor was discovered in that exact spot. I have read some research and it seems about 30% of the time scope procedures leave cancer cells behind.

It’s still an early catch by other standards and you have a great chance of a good outcome.
