CT found small lung nodules

Postby 4us4 » Sat May 02, 2020 7:32 pm

So.... my last CT showed 4 new small lung nodules? 4mm, 4mm, 3mm, 2mm--- ug

This is AFTER discovering the peritoneum spread (which I hope we wiped out after cytoreductive & hipec). My oncologist said that the probability is that this is evidence of new cancer spread, **BUT** we can't say for sure yet. I read that the majority of lung nodules are benign.

Has anyone had a lung nodule scare that turned out to be nothing? Just looking for hope
DX@39yo in April19: Stage 4 Sigmoid Mets to peritoneum, ovaries, spleen
June-Oct 2019: FOLFOX, Avastin, 5FU (9 infusions)
Nov19: Cytoreductive+HiPEC at UCSD, PCI score= 8
Jan20: FOLFOX, Avastin, 5FU (3 infusions)
April,June,Aug2020: watching several small growing lung nodules

4mm is so small, 2mm is almost unheard of to see on a CT scan. Did you have scan of your lungs done when you were first diagnosed to check for a baseline? DH does have on nodule, 3mm, that has always been in the same spot, always there, never changed. But then he had a new one. And it was also 3mm. then it grew to 6mm off chemo. That was the definitive answer to the question of whether it was a recurrence. They did a wedge resection and pathology confirmed it. He had another one show up a year later, in his bronchial tube, near where the first one was. That too was not as small. A scan a few weeks earlier had missed it (but that was a scan done at a local hospital for pneumonia, not a cancer center). Definitely a chance they could be infectious nodules from a cold or virus. How frequent are you being scanned? On any chemo right now?

These are all new nodules - so not seen on the baseline one year ago or progress scans (I think I've had 5??). I am getting a new CT in 6w to see if there was growth -- and we will decide an action plan after that. It has been 4 months since my last chemo treatment & 2.5 months since my last scan which did not show nodules.

I've never hoped I had a cold/virus/infection so much in my life!!!

I hope those are benign! But, in case they’re not - my husband had many many tiny nodules in both lungs (1-5mm) and chemo (Folfiri + Avastin) eliminated them pretty much completely. I’m sure you’d rather not get back on chemo, but it does seem to work well. Still, fingers crossed - keep us posted.

My mum had three pop up four years into her stage 4 diagnosis. One was cancer one grew to 7 mm and stayed there and does not have uptake on a PET scan and along with another smaller one have been there for over four years now . They just sit there . The one that was growing was removed quickly .
Take care ,

Hi 4us4. I had numerous pleural Lung nodules discovered on my 2 year CT that resolved by 2.5 year CT. The largest was 2x5mm. I hope the same for you!
DX CC: 8/17, age 50, CEA 3.9, asymptomatic
Resection: 9/17
Stage: IIIB, T3N1bM0. Sigmoid Adenocarcinoma; 3/46 LN biopsied positive
Tumor ~5x4 cm; Lynch Neg
FOLFOX 10/17 - 3/18; completed 11 of 12; #12 canceled due to low platelets
Neulasta administered after chemo numbers 3 to 11
CT and Colonoscopy 8/18: NED
CT 3/19: NED
CT 9/19: numerous indeterminate pleural lung nodules (largest 2x5 mm)
