Surgery tomorrow! Need positive vibes

Postby Malidosa » Wed Jan 15, 2020 9:38 am

So my surgery is tomorrow. From the minute I found out about this cancer I have been looking forward to getting to this step.

But now I'm finding myself scared and nervous. Not only cause I don't know what to expect during/after surgery. But that I know I will now be moving on to another unknown step.

Ugh. just need good vibes and some good stories. Appreciate anything. Thanks,

Well, I cannot think of anyone on this forum (since I’ve been following it) that has had something bad happen with their surgery. You’ll be fine!! And this nasty stuff will be OUT of your body! My husband’s surgery is scheduled for February 11th, and believe me, I’m counting the days.
That said, it’s totally understandable to be nervous. But try not to fret too much about what will come after. One step at a time!!

Now is when the beast inside of you is attacked and destroyed. The army is moving in and will continue to fight till every, tiny single part of the beast is gone. That's a very good satisfying thing! You are young and healthy otherwise, the surgery will go fine.

You will be in my thoughts and prayers,

Deb

So surgery went well. Spent yesterday groggy. Told I am SORE!!! Guess I didn’t really know what to expect as I’ve never had surgery but yeah my stomach feels like it’s done several rounds with a baseball bat.

I’ve been up walking but trying to get the body back awake. I’ve passed a bunch of blood clots with nurses tell me is normal? Anyone else?

I'm glad you're surgery went well and that you're walking around!*hugs* I didn't have blood clots in my bowel movements but I had blood clots in my bladder which prevent me from emptying my bladder when they took my catheter out so they had to put it back in. When they tried again everything was fine.

Glad everything went well and that your up and walking around! Yes, my husband passed a lot of clots and very dark brown/red dried crusty blood for the first day or two.

Keep us updated. The beast has been removed!

So far it’s all been a little more exhausting then I thought it would be. Everyone keeps saying on my age I’ll bounce right back but I literally feel like everything in my body hurts. I want to rest cause of exhaustion but my back is so sore from resting. I can really rest any other way cause my stomach is so sore. Just exhausted. I realize I went through major surgery and I’m only on day 4 but man every day feels like a new battle. Hoping this doesn’t go on for too long.

Was it an open or a laparoscopic surgery?
When do they expect a histology report?
58 yo male at diagnosis: T1bN0M0, 0/15 nodes, low grade/moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma
03/2016 colonoscopy: 2 small polyps removed in left colon; CEA = 1.3
04/2016 colonoscopy: caecum sessile 3.5 cm polyp piecemeal removed with kind of clear margins
05/2016 "prophylactic" laparoscopic right hemicolectomy - bleeding, leak, infection
06/2017 CT scan, colonoscopy OK; CEA = 1.6
A lot of funny stuff discovered by CT scans in liver, kidney, lungs, arteries, gallbladder, lymph node, pancreas

It was robotic right colectomy. But also I’m suffering from what they think is an anal fissure. Which is what started this whole thing otherwise I would have had no normal symptoms of cancer. So the fissure is becoming super irritated because of all of my irregular bowels which is the most excruciating part. So overall I’m just a mess. They said pathology would take about a week.
