Perirectal abcesses.

About a year after discovering incurable cancer in
my rectum, I developed a perirectal abcess in my left buttock. . My doctor said that the cancer can cause this when it invades surrounding tissue. I had the abcess surgically removed

Six weeks ago I developed another abcess in my left buttock.

I am curious to hear from other people who have experienced this. I'd like to know how widespread it is because I'd never heard of it as a side-effect
of rectal cancer. The downside of all this is that I cannot get chemo while undergoing treatment for the wounds left by the surgery

I had the abcess surgically removed

Full open surgery in the OR / ER, or a drain placed to drain / flush ????
I had the latter for an intra-pelvic abscess post-op ... BUTT ... have never heard of a gluteal "abscess" 1 year later
Had you had any other "injections" there ?????

I have never heard of this as a side effect ... please read my history for reference, and I have had a SHITload of surgeries and interventions
... AND I am a medical kinda guy ( Vet for > 35 years ) and have DONE these surgeries.

MORE info needed here buddy 'cos there may be other things your docs need to check up on
have you had any other drains placed previously in that area ?
any other penetrating wounds in that area ?

OH and just FYI .... peri-rectal would indicate INSIDE the actual pelvis " next to the rectum "
IF this is in your actual buttock = gluteal muscles = that is NOT peri-rectal

I cannot answer your question, RichieTheK, but I wanted to tell you that I feel for you - what a fighter you are, going from one treatment to the next with your prognosis. As you can see in my signature my husband has some similar issues (mets in bone, lungs) and I do not know if he'll be able to beat this monster - but it helps me to see others who are still fighting, no matter what.
