A freakin hernia now

Postby Trying » Sun Nov 24, 2019 10:27 pm

Its been about 6 weeks since my emergency colostomy. I was alone and my son fell and was screaming. My first instinct was to pick him up. I now have a hard bulge under my stoma which looks exactly like a hernia. Any tips other than surgery to keep it from growing or maybe helping it go down a bit? Or is this wishful thinking. I feel like a building that keeps getting hit with a wrecking ball. One thing after another as it is for many of us.

Sending you an abundance of positive prayers. No advice to offer, just love & light. I am 9 weeks out from colon resection. I have a handicap son. It is so difficult to fight my natural instincts for his care and to rely on others.

Prayers for healing,

Sorry to hear that, I hope it is not painful. There are things you can do to try to avoid a hernia getting larger, like avoiding certain abdominal exercises, but unfortunately there's not really anything you can do to shrink a hernia. I had the same problem, a hernia right next to my ileostomy. When I had the ileostomy reversal surgery they just pushed the hernia back in and stitched it up, but about a year later it came back as a marble-sized bulge next to my scar. I then had a hernia repair surgery and a mesh was inserted and I haven't had any problems since. Hope you can get it sorted out!

Glad you and the little one are OK ... scary when our kids need us like that !

Checking in with Docs would be a good step just to assess IF it needs any more attention ???
"My first instinct was to pick him up." >>>>>> Damn straight !!!!! <<<<<<<<

BUTT ... another option, if mobility permits, would be to get yourself down onto the floor with him,
so you can hold/comfort him without the added "mechanical" stress on your body ???? just a thought if this happens again

I know the INSTINCT reflex. It caused me to rupture my quads tendon right off my patella
and this is ME who has trained martial arts for decades, where we try to RE-train our instincts
... BUTT when loved ones are involved, I know ... they always come first

All the best to you and your son
You are a great Mom !
