Surgery here, and done.

Postby Mohrfamily » Tue Nov 12, 2019 7:42 pm

DH and I started this journey a year and a half ago, spending a lot of that time wondering how long we had. If your reading this you know to some extent that so I won't yack about it.

OSU gave us more. Today they resected his colon and placed an original HAI pump.

No surprises, disease was only present in the colon and the liver. The colon surgeon mentioned he could see how the tumor had shrunk from the chemo. Nothing was found anywhere else. The liver surgeon mentioned talking about pump treatment or this or that and I told her I know my husband and when he is green lighted for anything, he will do anything and everything meaning pump AND systemic. She smiled and was like that's great to hear.

So happy and so thankful
DH dx stage IV liver mets largest 6x6.4 cm
Colonoscopy/endoscopy/port place 5/29
4cm mass in splenic flexure
1st round FolFox 5/30
08/2018 new CT no new lesions, clear lungs, slight decrease in colon.
3/2019 PET scan shows greater than 6-7 liver mets largest measuring 3x3 cm. No growth nothing new.
8/15/19 largest liver lesion 1.9x2.1
9/16/2019 OSU to proceed with surgery implant HAI and colon resection
11/19 resection of colon HAI placed
2/20 CEA back to 1000s, liver worse than when we began-start FOLFIRI

So glad it all went well and hope his recovery continues to go smoothly. That operation for me was the easiest of my three; still i felt worse on Day 2 than I did the day after - probably because anesthesia wore off!

Make sure he’s getting adequate pain killers and he should be great - up and moving around in no time!!

Oh that’s perfect. My first surgery, they were worried about the fact that I had only one kidney and basically tried to control the pain with Tylenol. The nurse said she couldn’t call anyone; by the time the doctors saw me at rounds early the next morning, I was literally writhing in pain!

Didn’t happen again. ; )

This last time I had an epidural and it was great.

Getting pain under control BEFORE it sets in IS 100% the way to go !!!!!

With epidurals ( had a few  ) they need to watch for urinary retention after they are finished.
Make sure you and hubby know to keep bugging the nurses about urine outputs after the epidural is out.

Sometimes it takes a while and they may need to catheterize him, to empty the bladder before it starts up on its own.

BTDT

Best wishes

He mention feeling like he had to pee but was afraid to go, I told him not to worry about it (catheter) seemed to relax some. Now having sternum pain but everything looks ok after EKG and chest xray. Even tried a few breathing exercises and did ok with a few.
