Yoga for “women’s cancer” (ugh)

Postby DBF » Sat Nov 09, 2019 7:41 am

Hi everyone!

I’ve not posted in a long time, so I thought I’d come here to bitch and complain. Haha
A new cancer center opened by me, and they have some great programs. One of them is an exercise series with all kinds of classes, including yoga. I was surprised (and somewhat annoyed) to see the class “Yoga for women’s cancers.” Not women with cancer- it’s a class for women with women’s cancers: it includes breast cancer, ovarian cancer, cervical cancer... basically, cancers that are particular to women (umm... men get breast cancer).
So... what if my cancer metastasized to my woman-organ? Do I not qualify? Are they gonna check? It seems so ludicrous. Am I missing something? I’m thinking of telling them my colon identifies as female.

In other news, I had another scan clear of cancer. Rife with inflammation, but no cancer. So that’s awesome! I wish Bev were around for me to tell. My baby is six now. Unbelievable. My son who was in high school when I was diagnosed lives with his lovely girlfriend in NYC. Going to a Camp Kesem party today with the two younger boys. Come here regularly to check in.

All the best,
Donna

You know, if I had passed that sign in the yoga center in my current state of mind, I’m confident I would have marched right in and given them a piece of my mind. Honestly. I’ve nothing against breast cancer (or other “women’s cancers”), but the marketer in me feels like there is some outsized focus there due to solid advertising.
