Promising new research

Postby claudine » Tue Oct 08, 2019 10:59 am

A friend posted on FB regarding a new molecule called Glutor, that blocks a cancer cell’s ability to uptake and metabolize glucose and apparently works against 44 different cancers in vitro. I did a quick google search and this article popped up:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/31303578
Wife of Dx 04/18 (51 yo). MSS, KRAS G12A, no primary

Tumors: L4 04/18; left adrenal gland & small lung nodules 03/19
rectum 02/22 (pT3 pN0 stage 2A); L3 09/22

Surgeries: intestinal resect. 05/18 (no cancer - Crohn's); adrenalectomy 02/20
L3-L4-L5 fusion and corpectomy 05/20; LAR 04/22; ileo reversal 09/22
L2-L3 fusion and corpectomy 09/22

Treatments: EBRT 04/18; SBRT 02/19; Failed adjuvant Xelox ; Folfiri/Avastin 03/19 - 01/20
adjuvant chemorad (Xeloda) 06/22; SBRT 11/22; Xeloda/Avastin since 01/24

I don't think they've reached that point yet... Still doing in vitro on cell cultures it seems.

The original paper cited in the Cell Chemical Biology journal they also used CB-839 which is a Glutaminase Inhibitor which may be found in 6 Clinical Trials mostly having to do with Lung Cancer. Its all promising work, but very early stages using this combination of GLUT-1, and GLUT-3 transporter inhibition by Glutor with CB-839. This is all related to the Warburg effect and how cancer cells utilize glucose.

You should note that in this last there are two trials indicated that includes this drug in combinations with others that include patients with metastatic colon cancer.
