First Triathlon in over 30 years!

Postby Gravelyguy » Sat Aug 10, 2019 3:45 pm

Hi Everyone,

I trained this summer to do my first triathlon in a long, long time. I did it with a good friend as a way to get back into shape and to let cancer know it had not gotten the best of me.

It hit me at the half way mark of the run as we turned around to head to the finish that I was going to make it. It brought back a flood of memories of the past couple of years and how there is no way I could be doing what I was doing this time last year. Can’t lie, I got a little emotional as I was running.

Everyone in the midst of treatment, it is so often overwhelming and it seems like every step of the treatment takes you further away from feeling well. I just want you to know that it gets better. It takes awhile but it gets better.

Praying for you all,

Dave

Congratulations! This is such great news!

For selfish reasons, this is just the thing I needed to hear today as I am starting Folfox this Friday, and I am hopeful that my life can remain as close to normal as possible. I plan on staying well-hydrated, running, walking, and swimming as much as possible, and maintaining my routine of working, cooking, etc. I hope I am not being delusional, but your post makes me hopeful!

Again, congratulations on the triathlon! It's quite an accomplishment for anyone, but for someone who has been what you have been through it's so much more.

Dude. That's freaking amazing. High five from a half marathoner! Idk that I will be able to do any halfs in the fall, but that's okay. I've got next spring and next fall and hopefully a whole lot more time after that.
