Thought of more questions re: postoperative CEA

Postby Punky44 » Sun Jun 09, 2019 5:18 pm

So my mom had surgery on March 21 and her first CEA draw was about a month later on April 23. It was 2.1. Is this likely “the baseline” or could it still be going down after surgery? If it is baseline, is that concerning? I see so many of you with numbers 1 or less.

Second question—her next CEA draw will be July 24 and she will have had her reversal surgery a month prior on June 28—could inflammation from surgery impact her CEA a month later?

Basically my anxiety is already building about these CEA draws. Any insight would be appreciated.

Hi ,
My mum’s has always been around 3.5 to 4.5 .
I do think it is slightly higher as you get older . I would not be concerned at all about that . There is inclined to be other inflammatory issues as you head towards 70 . Having watch CEA readings for ten years they do bounce around a little .
No cause for alarm that I can see .
Take care ,

my husbands jumped around a lot as well. usually ranged from 2.4 to 3.3. On one occasion it jumped to 5.7, but nothing ever came of it. It's stressful to say the least.
