Thin walled cavitary lesion to solid nodule?

Postby zephyr » Fri Jun 07, 2019 4:13 pm

Does anyone knows what it means when a 17 mm thin walled cavitary lesion in the lung turns into a solid 19x21 mm nodule? I don’t see my onc for another week and I’m trying to interpret my CT report. Other nodules are stable except one cavitary nodule has developed a thin wall.

Just a question maybe for your docs :

does this transition and/or any of these locations possibly have a connection to the YAG laser
ablation process from last year ???

chemo, surgery, SBRT, laser and other ablative technologies ( RFA, microwave, cryotherapy, Irreversible Electroporation )
would all have their own specific tissue destruction and healing sequelae

maybe just something to find out ... and let us know !

Best wishes

I had a bilateral laser surgery in Germany in October and November of last year. 10 spots were removed from my right lung and four of them were shown to be metastatic rectal cancer, lymph nodes negative. On the left side because of the proximity to the vessels they removed most of my left lower lobe including three confirmed spots also metastatic rectal cancer, lymph nodes again negative. Some cavitary relations were noted on my follow-up CAT scan and I sent the CD to the surgeon. His response to viewing the CD

'Last Friday your CD arrived. I have just looked at the pictures and I am very satisfied.

The laser caves on both sides are not very large and partly filled with liquid, which is not bad.

Furthermore, the pleural effusion after partial removal of the left lower lobe in combination with the laser resections on the left is normal.

I hope you are fine and think we need to do the next CT check in 3 months.

It's probably best to send the pictures right away.'

My last CAT scan a couple weeks ago showed the cystic lesions had gone down to linear scarring in the spots in my right upper lobe which were previously assumed to be postsurgical changes were getting smaller. My Sloan-Kettering oncologist is hedging her bets and does have me on Avastin and Xeloda. I'll send the latest CD to the surgeon and see if it has anything to add. At this point the way I see it is that we just need to continue doing close surveillance and see what happens.

My apologies, I use voice recognition software... some cavitary lesions were noted... and the spots in my right upper lobe..
