High EOS% 8.6 ??

Postby chrissyrice » Sun Apr 01, 2012 8:00 pm

What would make my blood EOS% jump from 1.4 to 8.6 in 3 months. Prior to this I was iron def anemic. Onc. just says no big deal.

So is it no big deal?

EOS as in eosinophils? Those usually rise due to allergy or infection responses.... If your onc isn't worried, I wouldn't be either

I once told my doc " if you had this problem I wouldn't worry either...... BUT I have it, so I am worried...
now what do we do about it ?????? " His reply " Hmmm, well, Ok I see your point."
Is your Onc also a Hematologist (many are) ??? If not then you could ask for a separate consult.

What is the CAUSE of your recent eosinophilia (high eosinophil counts on CBC)? Ask your doc and if he cannot give you a very detailed answer, then you need more follow up. "No big deal" is NOT an answer.

Did your anemia resolve ? with what treatment ? any other blood result changes ... "mast" cells, basophils, neutrophils ????
Fletch is correct : hypersensitivty reactions (allergy, especially in the lungs, skin and GIT) and parasitic infections account for most eosinophilias, but there are also bone marrow changes, medication responses ( 20 % of people have temporary eosinophilia after a radiologic contrast administration.... just FYI !!!! ) and other body hormone changes which will increase eosinophils.

If YOU are concerned, I don't care about your Onc .... then it is 100 % warranted to get enough follow up to give you a proper answer to why you have eosinophilia.

Thank you so much for the feedback!

Seems I do have a communication problem with my Onc.
