Scared

Postby Joeswife » Wed May 15, 2019 6:28 pm

First time logging in. My husband was diagnosed in May 2017 with stage 4 colon cancer and innumerable liver mets. Colon was resectioned and tumor was removed and fixed a hernia with a mesh. Oncologist started him on Cetuximab and 5-fu worked for a few months then stopped working. Next we tried Avastin, again stopped working. The last one we tired was cyramza with 5-fu. It caused him to have a partial bowel obstruction which they couldn't operate because of cancer. A week later another bowel obstruction. Long story short he was sent him on hospice. Not eligible for chemo anymore is what oncologist said. My husband has given up, lost so much weight and barely eats because of bowel obstruction. Lactalose isn't working. Hasn't gone poop in 6 days. I wanted him to continue fighting, I'm sad and scared. I'm sure I forgot to mention other stuff but just needed to vent. :|

Has the doc mentioned trying a stent to relieve the blockage? Have you tried a second opinion?

The doctor didn't suggest a stent. They just sent him home with hospice. The hospice nurses are very helpful though. Today the administered an enema and it seemed to work a little. We haven't gone for a second opinion. Since he is on Hospice, everything has to go through them now. If we want a second opinion we have to get out of hospice.

A stent can be used as a palliative measure, maybe call his doctor and ask about it? Try calling his surgeon also. I'm sorry he is going through this but it sounds like he is being well taken care of by the nurses. Wishing you the best
