Anyone Had Their Tumor Not Shrink Following Chemo/Radiation?

Postby Deep » Fri Apr 12, 2019 12:08 am

I did 25 sessions of chemo/radiation in January of this year and then had a scan in mid March to check the results. The scan showed the same dimensions as before the treatment for the main tumor. My surgeon says that it shrunk but gave no details, although he did state that he no longer sees the lymph nodes in the scan. Just wondering if anyone has went through chemo/radiation without any change to the tumor size? Also, does anyone know how long the radiation works after you are done with surgery? I am hoping that the tumor did shrink. My bowel movements tell me it did, but the scan said it did not.

Scans are far from accurate. It’s also possible for tumors to “die” and turn into scar tissue without changing in size a lot. Your pathologist will be able to assess how well the tumor responsed to chemo/radiation. Remember it’s not all about the main tumor anyways, the goal of chemo is also to stop occult metastases and to reduce circulating tumors cells.

My body did the same thing IAW the main tumor shrinkage, I knew it worked when things passed through WAY easier. Mine did shrink somewhat significantly, then they cut it all out.
