I am sorry to hear about this discovery. I am hoping it's not abdominal lymph nodes. However, if they are, I want to give you some info because I have experience with it.

Mine have only been detected by PET scans - never big enough by CT criteria to be seen. So, I've had PETs every 2-3 months since July of 2015. Mine are considered retroperitoneal & para-aortic, and common illiac. If you do a search - it is somewhat rare. At least rare to have these lymph nodes and not other organs involved. We have blasted mine with 30 rounds of chemo, radiation, and surgery - and they continue to persist. Next steps are to try an EGFR inhibitor chemo. I have been fortunate to keep them relatively contained - although recently a node popped up in my supraclavicular (neck) region. But considering these first showed on a scan in July of 2015 - it's not lost on me I've been relatively lucky to only have these for the past 3 years.

I would suggest taking an aggressive treatment approach and making sure your doctor is in line with that approach. Don't let any doctor tell you that this means chemo for life...it may mean chemo for now until better options come along. Let me know if you have any questions.

Best of luck,

Hello CLJ,

We share some commonalities. I am one of the weird LN met people. Mine started in retroperitoneal area, spread to thoracic and then up to my left supraclavicular node. Thought it was interesting that it went to the left and not the right in the neck.
Not similar in that chemo didn’t help me and my spread was very rapid. Thankfully immunotherapy is working really well for me now.
Sure hope that between surgeries and treatment you can diminish or keep your disease contained.

Beth

Hi Beth
It's nice to meet you as it does seem like we are some of the "weirder" ones here. Mine is also in my left neck node (supraclavicular). I did a little research and after asked my oncologist who confirmed; the reason it goes to the left and not the right is because the thoracic duct from which the lymph drains from abdomen ends at the left supraclavicular nodes aka Vichow's node. Very odd and it feels so stange that cancer traveled that far. Right now, my chemo is helping me, but I am preparing for the day when it won't. Which immuno are you on? I just got my Foundation One results from my most recent biopsy and I have a Tumor Mutation Burden of 15 muts/MB which may make me eligible for immuno despite being MSS. I hope that the immuno continues to work well for you! It's given so much hope to so many people.

In the CT we found that retroperitoneal lymph node to the left of the aorta is 1.9 * 1.3 * 2.2

An aortocaval retroperitoneal lymph node is 1.8 * 1.2 * 2.7

Had pet. Right side lymph below neck is 1.8, and at the retroperitoneal it is 9.7

My feet were swollen since Feb couple days after my breast MRI.
Note: I was diagnosed with stage 1a breast cancer and had lumpectomy two weeks ago. Sentinel and axillary nodes in the armpit are negative.

Am silently worrying about those lymph nodes showed up on CT and pet. Didn't do any diagnosis yet. Onco told she will do re pet in two months.
Waiting on oncoscore of the breast cancer and in two weeks I meet my onco.

Did anyone have swollen feet when you had enlarged lymph nodes in the abdomen

Hi Jep.
I came across a similar concern with a swollen lymph node near my right hip. And when I say concerned, that is quite an understatement. Like yourself I had a lot of affected lymph nodes in my histology report. 21 positive out of 47.
My oncologist arranged for a biopsy on the day, as it was reasonably accessible near my hip.
Luckily it came through all clear, which I must say surprised me. I guess after all the stress of a recent surgery, perhaps inflammation is reasonably normal.
I thought I should share, as it's nice to hear people with similar symptoms doing well.
Good luck :)

jep,

Have you received the results of the biopsy? You mentioned possible surgery on a different thread. What's the latest?

Hi, yes, the lymph node that was biopsied tested positive :( The big concern is the position of this node (near the aorta)....2 surgeons have already said that they would do his surgery (but they did let us know of the risks)....we're in limbo right now....2 more treatments to complete this cycle of chemo, then a scan and a colonoscopy.....my hubby and his docs can't really make any decisions until we see the results of those tests...I'm very nervous :|

Good luck with those scans and the upcoming decision-making. Do you trust these surgeons with the para-aortic node surgeries? I read that this can be done laparoscopically, so that's good.

My husband trusts his surgeon completely, but he still wants to meet with another surgeon at Smilow just to get another set of eyes on this....unfortunately, my husband's first surgery was "open" so they don't think laparoscopic is a viable option (given all the scar tissue)....

Jep,

Any chance you are able to get in to talk to Dr. Charles Cha at Smilow? I think I mentioned in another post that he was my original surgeon and then also did my para aortic node dissection. Mine were massed together (not good) and 12.5 SUV uptake on PET. I trust him 100% and he ended up getting out 10 nodes in that area, 5 of which were mets. I've been NED for the past 10 months. Throwing that out there again as we have so much in common along with location. Best of luck to you both!

YES! Thank you Brenda!! We asked my husband's oncologist about Dr. Cha (after reading your post), and they actually know each other! His onc is going to speak with Cha and set up an appointment....my husband loves his local surgeon but also wants to hear what Dr. Cha has to say.....thank you so much for that recommendation!!
