Back to MSK on Monday!

Postby jep » Sat Feb 02, 2019 10:42 pm

Hey everyone....so it's been nearly 2 yrs since we first visited MSK....my husband's onc there agreed that he should be treated locally, as their suggested regiments were the same....she did tell us to come back if we hit a crossroad...we'll here we are with some node involvement and uncertainty with how to proceed. Our local onc knows the MSK onc and has great respect for her....he is looking forward to collaborating....I feel this is a major plus....so hoping for some answers for my man and our family....thank you all for the great info and advice!!!

Hey Lee, thanks for checking in! It was a pretty positive experience overall....the MSK doc approves of the new chemo regiment that my husband is on and after reviewing his scans, she feels it is working. She, like our local onc, does not currently have an answer regarding the lymph nodes....they both seem to agree that we need to be patient and finish the 6 months of chemo before deciding on surgery vs radiation, etc. It was pretty reassuring to hear her agree with much of our local onc's opinions/decisions....the BEST part though is that she is having her MSK colorectal surgeon review all of my husband's scans/records to get the surgeon's input....this is perfect timing, as my husband's local surgeon (who is excellent and board cert colorectal) is presenting my husband's case before the regional tumor surgery board in the coming weeks!!! So excited to have all of these super smart people working on our behalf....so, that's where we are....lots of reassurance that we are taking the right path, but no clear plan yet as to what to do about these nodes....
All the best to everyone!!

So, my husband's MSK oncologist got back to him last Friday . . . she met with her MSK colorectal surgeon and reviewed all of his records/scans, etc. They want him to have a colonoscopy to double check some hot spots on his PET scan . . . if the scan is clean, they suggest moving forward with surgery to remove the affected lymph nodes (he did have a clear scope in May 2018) . . . can anyone chime in regarding surgery to remove lymph nodes? I will also search threads, but just wondering if anyone reading has some input. Thank you!
