SO ... now that I have finished embarrASSing myself with browser tweeks

I agree the blurred whisky bottles ( I am with stu here for the Scottish / Canadian spelling  ) indicate a reputation indeed
Nice cottage front view as well.

as for turkey :
never tried the deep fried version,
did lots in the oven ... BUTT ....
for the past 20 years +/- have done them on the BBQ, indirect convection method on the grids over drip pans,
NOT on the rotisserie. The downside is no pan drippings and we have to do stuffing separately in the oven with other stuff.
All works out well and the bird is MOIST ... always.
and FYI we just finished up the leftovers on Friday from a Monday dinner.

ZX: I agree ... very classy artistic pix !

Cheers

Mostly I have the reputation....
Stu, there is a bottle of Glenfiddich on the counter. I have no idea if it is any good, it is the youngest mobster's drink of choice. He's all of 19 years old and has determined that single malt whiskey is the "bee's knee's".

Deep fried turkey tastes no different than oven cooked and is not greasy at all (so I am told, I didn't have any) but apparently the skin tastes much better deep fried. The advantage is that you can cook a 15 lb turkey in about an hour in the fryer. But no stuffing, and harder to make gravy. Not that I care, I don't eat any of that either.

I have to say I am totally in awe when I look at zx10guys' pictures. The time spent framing the picture makes so much difference as opposed to my "hold my beer while I get this shot" approach to photography.

Sure did, I started off the weekend with a lovely selection of grapes.
oh wait, that was an Argentinian Pinot Grigio
I had to quit drinking after my diagnosis, I was having so many blood samples drawn I thought it would be better if the samples weren't 90% alcohol.
Then once I started chemo I was on daily Lovenox shots until the middle of September so I really couldn't drink.

And so Thanksgiving was a bit of a celebration for me. Probably the last time my FIL will be up there though. He was placed in a long term residence last December due to advanced dementia. My MIL would bring him up to the cottage for the weekends if we were up, but he has declined so much she thinks she won't be able to handle him in a few months time. He did enjoy it while he was there.

ZX, that's my city! We used to live about a mile from where your photos were taken, and had a view of the water. :) The inner harbor makes for a nice walk on a pretty day.

Mob, sorry to hear about your FIL. I hope your MIL is able to join you for your next get-together there, even if your FIL doesn't.

My husband is largely a pescetarian (eats fish but not poultry/pork/beef) so we usually have crab cakes (a local specialty in Baltimore) instead of turkey at Thanksgiving. Nobody who's come to our place for Thanksgiving has ever said that they'd rather have turkey than crab cakes!

I bought this prior to Thanksgiving in the hopes that I could make broth from the turkey bones. $170. on sale for $45.
My old stock pot was just thin metal and had had a few mishaps so I couldn't pass up the opportunity to replace it.
(The wine glass is just there as a contrast for size perspective.)
Image
Not sure what happened to the bones, I wasn't on clean up crew and they disappeared so sadly no stock.

Then, last weekend, I bought this -

It still needs a permanent container.
I think if a psychologist were to examine my "just 'cuz I want to" purchases over the past few months they would say "What's with the pot obsession, mob?" "Are you trying to sublimate your interest in the new Canadian cannabis laws?"

And just so you all know that I can take pictures that are in focus, this was taken at last year's Thanksgiving at the cottage. It was a gorgeous sunny weekend, hard to think about how sick I was at the time -

This is Miss Kitty hiding in the cottage greenery in the hopes of catching something.

I was up there for a total of 5 days this year. I'm so looking forward to next year.

A little update from across the pond on our recent travels .
From Fishing villages to the Lake District for my youngest son . His school participates in the Duke of Edinburgh scheme . They have to walk for miles with an enormous rucksack. He completed it during a storm and sent me a photo of one of his routes .He walked from the bottom up . I think the ethos must be life can be tough , keep climbing . Ha.
The last photo was sent to my son who was at uni during our last trip . My husband managed to take it with his GoPro camera and sent it to him to remind him we missed him . Letting go is kind of hard !!!
So that’s us !
