Stage 4 to a clear PET!

Postby AppleTree » Mon Aug 06, 2018 9:56 pm

After almost 2.5 years...a clear PET!!!

My CT scan had showed possible lung thingies again. So, I was bracing for the PET results. My sister and I looked at each other and then asked my oncologist if she had the right patient on the screen. We did not want to celebrate prematurely! We just lost a sister to cancer last month. Over the winter we tried to get our treatment chairs next to each other.

Another scan is scheduled in 3 months to double check those lungs. And my oncologist recommends I keep my port for a year.

I am 3 months out from stopping chemo. I am getting stronger...slowly. At 5'8" I was down to 104 pounds. Now, I am at 106. I met with the oncology nutritionist today and she was super helpful. Trying to get my body to hold on to food for more than 3-4 hours is a challenge because of my diarrhea. So, I learned a lot of tricks for adding more proteins. By the end of the day, my head feels like a heavy bowling ball up there. And I will be starting a strength rebuilding class for cancer patients at the hospital. It is free!

I need to get strong now so I can get a job.

One thing at a time. I am going to enjoy the rest of the summer with my son. We were in the swimming pool today. He was gone a week to Boy scout camp last week and I really missed him. But, I was so grateful he was off with boys climbing mountains and doing things I can not do...yet. Next year is World Jamboree and he really wants to go. We are going to have to really concentrate on fundraising because it is expensive. But to see his huge smile after this past week...put a big smile on my face too. That and my clear PET.
