Cancer Again: Not Colon?

Postby Cured » Mon Jul 30, 2018 1:14 pm

3 days ago I had a craniotomy. They removed what they think is lung cancer, which was pressing against the brain.
It seems I have a bunch of cancer in my lungs, which is the next challenge.
It is all too freaky. I am 10 years cured from Rectal Cancer, and this isn't the source of the metastasized tumors, they say. Although we are waiting for the biopsy results.
They prioritized removing the hunk from my head. What was removed is being biopsied. It seemed odd to proceed before a biopsy.
I am home now, alive and functioning. Think, walk, talk. Have to make myself rest, so I will keep this note short. (I had hoped to post before the surgery, as this group is so supportive)

Please recommend sources/ links for Lung Cancer and a support group for it.

I am fortunate to have family and friends for support, and many prayers. 3 priests visited me and I was able to give Confession before surgery. We took communion 3 times this week (we are Greek Orthodox).
Who knows how long we have left on this earth?
Prayers are appreciated.

-Bill

A coworker was diagnosed a bit over two years ago with lung cancer. They did a biopsy and genomic tumor testing and determined that they had a drug to treat it. The tumor shrank and stabilized but started to grow again and it was biopsied and there was a tumor mutation. But they had a drug for that mutation as well. So he's still alive and the tumor is under control but he has to keep taking the drug. The drug is targeted so he doesn't have the problems that general chemo has on your whole body. The drugs are in pill form and just work on specific mutations.

It may be that your lung cancer mutation has a drug available for it if they can't remove it via surgery.

Bill

I was Colon Stage 3a in 2007 and diagnosed with Stage 3A NSCLung Cancer last year.
I use LUNGevity to read and occasionaly post. Tom Galli is a real stand-up guy on that site.
At the time of diagnosis I was declared inoperable. I had a small 2.5cm tumour and 2 lymph nodes.
After 4 rounds of Gemcitibine + Carboplatin, 6 rounds of Taxol + Carboplatin and 30 hits of radiation, I am, almost to everyones surprise in remission.
I am under no illusions. Lung Cancer is a very persistent beast but I'm still here .
Best wishes
Wayne

My Onc thinks it actually is colon cancer which is metastatic
Wants to begin FOLFORI
FIRST I need to heal some more from the crainiatomy, before implant of the power port.
And complete the pathologies, as only yesterday they pulled samples from in lungs.
And hope they also can match for Imunotherapy.

Hi Bill
I might be an old grouchy Aussie but "thinks" isn't good enough.
The treatment for a lung cancer primary and metastasized colon cancer is quite different.
I had an EBUS biopsy not the old school mediastinoscopy and those results determined that my NSCLC was a new primary.
Best wishes

It looks like I am now facing a lung met I have a .8 cm solid nodule that they don’t know yet whether it’s a primary or a colon met either way the best rx would be to sx excuse it an I’m hearing it’s better if it’s a primary lesion wat to u know about which is worse an better to treat thanks

My wife is anxious for me to begin chemo ASAP - since our Onc said he believes it is the way to go. However, I just had brain surgery 2 weeks ago and must allow more time for my body to heal before filling it with the aggressive chemicals.
Besides, they pulled samples from my lungs and it will take a while to get the results from them. And now how to find the possible match for Immuno-therapy?

If you feel that your whole body needs more time to recuperate and to not be 'gung-ho' asap
with the chemo, then trust that. Your body, your call.
