Has anyone received a Chronic Lukemia diagnoses post colorectal cancer?

Postby StupidAssCancer » Thu Jul 19, 2018 6:49 pm

Has anyone received a Chronic Lukemia diagnoses post colorectal cancer? I just went in for my annual and my dr is putting me through a host of testing as she thinks I have Chronic Luekemia. I know nothing about this but am curious if there is a link between colorectal Cancer and this lukemia? Also is it a metastasis or its own Cancer? And lastly what have you done to treat it if you also have been given this diagnoses? My original colorectal diagnoses was 5 years ago
Thank you much for your answers.

I cannot recall specifically if anyone here had a confirmed leukemia Dx post CRC treatment.
I had persistently low lymphocytes for about 2 years + after chemoradiation with no other CBC abnormalities and that all slowly got back to "normal"

An actual Dx of say, CLL could have a number of causes, some of which may include prior cancers and chemo / radiation etc.
BUTT ... AFAIK I know of no direct causality / link specifically to what we get as CRC'ers

Getting all the testing done to get the info is what is needed, 'cos sometimes the changes in lab results are NOT actual diseases
like we have gone through.
If not ... that is GOOD
If so .. than as I said, better your docs are ahead of it by getting the tests done = GOOD docs !

Keep us in the loop sista'
we are here for you !!!

Cheers

Chemotherapy and radiotherapy have some cumulative risk for dysplasia and leukemia. Chemo for CRC is not considered especially problematic although there is a tendency to not much acknowledge common treatment dysplasias either. Other problems have historically been considered more critical.

A Colon Club forum member who has discussed CML is Traci43, at CSN these days. It is a problem to distinguish de novo chronic leukemia from treatment related chronic leukemia and it has pretty low coverage in the literature. With acute leukemia drs do routinely distinguish between treatment related and de novo acute leukemia.

In the medical literature there are long term upper MCV values that associate with later risk of treatment related leukemia, particularly some drugs for other cancers. MCV is a consideration in chemo intensity for us, upper (leukemia risk) and lower (to be active enough against cancer). In my wife's immunochemo regimen, things that are described to ameliorate some dysplasias and leukemia cells include natural folate sources, PSK (a special hot water Coriolus mushroom extract), the human form of vitamin K2 (menatetrenone aka menaquinone-4), and IV vitamin C.
watchful, active researcher and caregiver for stage IVb/c CC. surgeries 4/10 sigmoid etc & 5/11 para-aortic LN cluster; 8 yrs immuno-Chemo for mCRC; now no chemo
most of 2010 Life Extension recommendations and possibilities + more, some (much) higher, peaking ~2011-12, taper chemo to almost nothing mid 2018, IV C-->2021. Now supplements

Thank you so very much for taking the time to delve into this with me. I had found some literature but not much on it so hearing personal case stories is always where I find my greatest education through my progress with this cancer etc.
The tips you shared are priceless. Thank you! I will have a certain diagnoses on Thursday and I’m sure will be back with more questions at that point.
My very best to you and your wife,
Alys
