All Looking Pretty Good

Postby SteveNZ » Mon Jul 09, 2018 5:24 pm

GREAT NEWS :D :D

After my Chemo-Radiation and the terrible time '..trying to poo..' the latest MRI has good news.
We were worried as a basic examination after all of this found lumps and thickening. The MRI result shows it sounds like mostly scar tissue.
Parts of the summary.

FINDINGS:
Tumour: The previously demonstrated polypoid low rectal mass is no longer evident, replaced by a band of low signal mild anterior wall
thickening. .....................

Submucosal T2 high signal in the lower rectum is interpreted as submucosal oedema..........

IMPRESSION: Low signal anterior wall thickening in keeping with fibrosis at the site of the previously demonstrated low rectal tumour. Mesorectal nodes previously identified as suspicious reduced in size.
EMVI negative. CRM clear. TRG 2 (fibrosis only, no visible tumour).

Dr Chris Davison, FRANZCR, NZMC# 30051 Radiologist NMDHB, Nelson Hospital cd/ps 9/07/2018 2:06 p.m.

I am no doctor but sounds pretty good. :D :D
Aged 56 - I feel really young...

After my chemo/radiation my surgeon did a sigmoidoscopy and said all that was left was scar tissue. Also a pet scan showed no evidence of disease especially in the distal rectal area. After surgery the pathology report did show minimal residual cancer cells, with 0/24 lymph nodes and clear margins. My oncologist still recommended chemo after as she could not guarantee no cancer cells got into the blood stream. I went ahead as I didn't want to wonder "what if" if I ever had a recurrence. This is good news. Not sure if your doctor will recommend chemo after, prob will depend on pathology report. Congrats, after all the suffering we go through with the radiation it feels good when it did what it is suppose to do.

Wow, that does indeed sound like GREAT news! No pain, no gain as they say! Now that it’s behind you, you can appreciate what all you endured to get those results. Time to prepare for surgery, right? Good luck and keep us posted with how you’re coming along. :D

Sounds like great news. So basically 100% shrinkage. My radiation guy mentioned that that happens in a relatively small number of cases. That chemo + radiation is powerful stuff.

Do you even need surgery now?

Thanks for that.
My surgeon wishes to have a look (short scope) and take samples for a biopsy. These results will decide what the team consider is appropriate next.
