New Member worried

Postby Leelee227 » Sat Jun 09, 2018 10:42 am

I am new to this. I just need to share my story and maybe get some information about colonoscopy cancer. I just recently went for my second colonoscopy and the results were not what I hoped for. I guess I should share a little back history about myself. At the age of 13 I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease and won! Then at the age of 31 diagnosed with breast cancer. We caught it early. I had a bi-lateral mastectomy and won! Last year I went for a routine colonoscopy at the age of 39. It was not good I had pre cancerous polyps and some low grade cancer. I had a total of about 9 polyps that came back not so good. A few days I went for my follow up colonoscopy and was told that they removed 15 flat serrated polyps adn we are currently waiting for the pathology. I have to go back in six months for another colonoscopy...I AM PETRIFIED!

Welcome to the Forum, and I'm sorry to hear of your situation.I don't know much about polyps, but removal of 15 polyps sounds like a lot to me.

My main question would be: What have your doctors discussed with you already? Have they done a full medical history on you lately? What is your doctor's interpretation of the unusually large number of polyps?

It would seem to me that they would want to do more than just wait another 6 months to see what might happen. Maybe they could do some genetic tests, or other types of test.

If you are not getting good explanations from your current doctor, maybe you should look for a different doctor who could give a proper diagnosis of this condition.

Do you have any risk factors for colon cancer? Here is a link to the Mayo Clinic website where they give a list of 13 risk factors for colon cancer. Do you have any of these 13 risk factors?

Factors that may increase your risk of colon cancer (scroll to bottom of the web page below to see the list)

EDIT
.
The number of polyps found is an important part of the diagnosis. Other important elements are indicated in the articles below. You should know more once you receive the biopsy report .Hopefully they are sending a blood sample out to test for familial genetic conditions
...There are different types of colon polyps with differing tendencies to become malignant and abilities to predict the development of more polyps and cancer. It is important to recognize families with members who have familial genetic conditions causing polyps...
