Chances of being colon cancer? Colonoscopy tomorrow

Postby Fearingtheworst » Tue Jun 05, 2018 4:11 pm

Hi,

I’m a new member here and I’m absolutely terrified of what the result of the colonoscopy tomorrow will be. I’m 27 years old male and my birthday is in 9 days so this is absolutely horrible.

It started beginning of April with pellet poop and when I researched why that was happening, it came up as constipation. Looking for reasons for constipation, fiber and cancer popped up. I had been eating a lot of this protein pita and realized it had a ton of fiber so I stopped but the constipation continued. I drank more water and stopped the pita with no change. I went to the GI mid May and gave me Miralax which worked as long as I taking it, when I stopped my problems continued. The GI also scheduled an endoscopy because of nausea that I was feeling in January and tested positive for H.Pylori. I asked the GI for a colonoscopy because I’m fearing the worst and he wouldn’t schedule it. So I called another GI and he agreed to schedule one, which I have tomorrow.

My symptoms are:

-contsiptation: it started with pellet poop and now I go less often. Used to go once a day, now it is once every couple of days. After taking the miralax, my poop is now always floating, which is another concern

-I have a lot of gas and rumbling in my stomach all the time

-I feel rectal pressure that comes and goes

What are my chances of colon/rectal cancer? I have already put in my mind that’s what it is and I’m crying daily waiting for the worst news after the colonoscopy tomorrow.

Hi,
You will be fine. There are so, so many issues linked to your symptoms. And to be honest they are not at all like what I had which then led step by step to the diagnosis of cancer. Do try to cheer up and have a neat birthday. Your birthday gift will be a signal from the Dr that all is clear inside. You are wasting tears.....
Happy Birthday

Be positive you found a great GI doctor willing to do this colonoscopy now.
The test is easy and you will or should know the results rather quickly.

Best of luck and it will help either way.

Thanks for the quick replies. What were your symptoms prior to your diagnosis? What happens after they find a tumor? I know it could be other things but I can’t help but think I’ll wake up from the colonoscopy and find the doctor next to me telling me the bad news.

I also want to mention that I live within 30 mins to Boston and I just want to be be prepared just in case. So for people who live in the area, any recommendation on the best surgeons/hospitals etc. that deal with this?

Thank you very much. My colonoscopy is in 4 hours.
