Surgery tomorrow (Thursday)

Postby L.andr » Wed Apr 25, 2018 7:23 am

I'm new to the club. Last Wednesday at a routine colonscopy, they found a 3 cm mass that is adenoCA.
I'm a nurse, I work in Palliative care, moving toward retirement. It is so strange to be on the other side, to be the patient now.
I'm scared! I'm doing a lot of nice things for myelf including remembering the joys of a clean system as today is the day for that.
Thanks,
L.andr

Cancer is scary stuff but it sounds like you have a medium-sized mass and they're going to take it out and likely do a lot of scans to make sure that there's no spread.

Sending best wishes for your surgery tomorrow! Joys of a clean system.. ☺️ I was fairly terrified and the surgery and recovery were much better than I was anticipating. Minimal pain. My advice is to get LOTS of rest as you recuperate and really watch your diet for several weeks. Sometimes doctors tell you that you can eat what you want too quickly. Good idea to talk to the dietician.
Healing thoughts and energy to you!

Thank you MargieJ and NHMike for your replies, it really helps.

I am still trying to learn how to use this site.

Also so confused about how this happened (it's in the family) - and I have hx diverticulosis, no surprise but geez I didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition!!

I want this OUT. So I am actually looking forward to tomorrow!!

Now back to the clear liquids...

Good luck tomorrow. Post when you can. One important thing, remember to walk, walk, walk those hospital halls. It really does help with the healing. Also bring a wrap around robe (vs one that you step into) for walking purposes.

Good luck with prepping today,

I was in the hospital for three nights ...nurses will wake you up and it sometimes is hard to get back to sleep. A Kindle or e-reader is helpful to read in the dark a bit before going back to sleep.

Thank you Steve!!
I did well, at least so far, I'm home and even drove as I am not taking any narcotics, it was laparoscopic,
following the low residue diet.
Wondering if I will get chemo, I'm at stage 2, cancer was in the wall of the colon but the lymph nodes were neg.
Any advice you have will be greatly appreciated, I'm walking 3x per day. Not lifting anything >10 lbs.

If you are looking for advice, I think it would help for you to create a signature that summarizes what your situation is so far. This will allow readers to determine if they have any information that might help you.

One of the most important items is the location of the tumor, i.e., whether in the colon or in the rectum, and in which part, exactly. Any details you can provide will be helpful.

Instructions for creating a signature are given here:
