As this ever happened to any of you? If so, how did you recover ... if you ever did...?

You got banned?

I used to admin on a online forum. Banning is done by admins and can only be undone by admins. I didn't know banning happened here. Threads have been locked on occasion but it's realitively civil here so I'm surprised to see anyone be banned.

Some forums give moderators the ability to ban. We (I'm a moderator on another forum) almost have to have that ability on a large forum even if only for the spam that comes through on a regular basis. We have waaaay too much traffic and new members to even think about approving posts before a new member's post can be seen. That would require someone just approving posts all day and night.

OSM,
Please give me a time and date you received this message and your IP from that notice and I can check the logs.( send a PM )

You are definitely NOT banned my friend !!!!! and your username is NOT on our ban list.

I suspect whichever IP you connected through for that session ... may have been on a ban list
( according to the notice page comments : A ban has been issued on your IP address )
We tend not to use that as much now as in past, as there are better ways to ban spammers and troublemakers,
since IPs are usually dynamically assigned and recycled from ISPs....
sometimes a legit member gets assigned a previously banned IP address from their ISP pool.

Cheers

I'm happy to see CR's response to this. If you were banned I would give up on the forum. you are unfailingly helpful, kind and overall awesome.

Love you OSM!

For the record Bev :
To my knowledge, other than known spammers ...
NOBODY has been banned from this forum during the past 3 years.

Members have rarely, voluntarily withdrawn and asked for their accounts to be de-activated by Admins
BUTT ... nobody has been banned

Just for the record !

Cheers all
