I received a package from the hospital yesterday and it indicated that I shouldn't have any valuables on me and they discouraged things like phones, cash, checkbooks, etc.

How did others handle this? I would like to be able to communicate with others when I'm back in the room but that would be hard to do if they don't permit communications devices. I'd also like to have my laptop with me to keep an eye on things at work and with trading. If I can't do that, then I'd need a phone to talk to my daughter to manage my positions. I suppose that I could give my devices to someone and then have them bring them to me after surgery as I'd be in my room most of the time.

Or is it so rough that I shouldn't be thinking about these things while in the hospital?

Maybe they mean just during surgery. I'm sure it is not a problem in your room. I know I had my phone and could've had
my computer if needed.

I had my wife bring me my phone (and also a laptop) to me after both of my surgeries once I was in my recovery room. Did not use either much the first one (resection), used the iphone for calling/web stuff a whole bunch more the second.

They say that so there is no liability on their part if something gets stolen. I took my phone with me and had no problems.

Is anyone going to be with you? I would leave the items with a loved one. I would NOT leave them in a room or with your clothes before surgery. Hubby always brought my things to me after getting settled in the room after recovery.

After getting settled, you will be in the room with your items.

I actually don't know. One of the downsides doing the surgery far from home. I have two people to ask who might be able to do this.

I'm working on the Short-Term Disability stuff right now. At the moment I'm stuck on whether I want The Hartford to withhold taxes from Short-Term Disability payments. I'm inclined to say no as it would mean another W-2 and I can always just make an estimated payment and it's only two weeks (I hope).

Yeah, I'd bring someone along in the waiting room and have them hold your laptop, phone etc. That's what I did. I gave my son all my tech stuff when I was called for surgery.
After surgery and in my room he brought it into me. Was very valuable to me to pass time watching movies, keep up on work and trading.

Hospitals say not to bring it to surgery, cause you put everything in a bag and they put it in a holding space - but sometimes things end up missing.

Gluck with everything.

I'm not sure that anyone will be with me due to logistics.

Worst case is I will drop stuff off with my sister (local) and ask her to drop it off after surgery. There would be other ways to get it but I don't want to put people out too much.

You signature says surgery on 10/30 but it doesn't say what kind. Do you know the name of the type of surgery they have planned for you? Is that information included in the pre-op documentation that they just sent you? Do you have a copy of the Informed Consent form that you will have to sign, where they list the risks and benefits of the planned procedure?

From the meeting notes:

Laparoscopically-Assisted Resection Low Anterior
Anastomosis Coloanal
Temporary Ileostomy
Possible Colostomy (psb)
Placement Stent Ureter - Bilateral

I already signed the Informed Consent at the October 10 meeting though I suppose that there could be another one.

The Pre-Op Documentation is a standard surgery package. It doesn't have anything specific to cancer in it.

I trade cryptocurrencies. I'm heavy into them since 2013. They make up about 80% of my income. Other 20% comes from my business and rentals.
You've seen bitcoin gains this year? Crazy, but still low price in comparison to projections.

They're hard to ignore as they're in the news a lot. More power to you that you can trade them. I'm fairly traditional with stocks, a bit of options selling and ETFs.
