O/t Anyone familiar with eye cancer?

Postby Steph20021 » Thu Sep 28, 2017 9:38 pm

my ct scan this week showed continued stability, still no lung and liver involvement for which I'm grateful. It's just in my abdomen wall and some lymph nodes.

But I got worrying news about my dad. When he went for an eye checkup to get new glasses, they found something behind his eye. He has a past of colon and prostate cancer and he's survived both. He now has a referral to a big cancer hospital in Toronto on Tuesday for testing of this eye thing. Can it be something other than cancer? If it's cancer, what's the prognosis? Will he go blind? Can they simply radiate the eye and he be cured?

I'm really worried because my mom is in a wheelchair and has lost vision from her diabetes/sepsis and we rely on my dad a lot. He takes her to physio etc. And he drives me to my chemo and scans etc. when my wife is working. We selfishly can't handle having another sick family member! We need him!

Hey Steph ... good for your stable !!!!

about the eye thing, just my take and IME :

primary ocular tumours are not all that common and I don't recall anyone here with mets to the eye from a different primary.

Let's see what the docs come up with after more info.
There are other things it can be and sometimes surgeries or direct intralesional injections are used.
IF it is a tumour, they are often melanoma or lymphoma and can also be benign growths from other tissue sources...
which can be easier and more effectively treated than many of our CRC related tumours.

Sending POSI ++++ VIbes and best wishes all your family's way

my aunt had what I believe was melanoma behind her eye. She had radiation and now has blurry vision in that eye. I know she had something done, I am sorry my brain was on my dad at the time so can't recall exactly what it was, but had to keep her head down, so no reading, watching tv or anything for a time period, it was a few weeks from what I recall and she had drops to put in her eye. She had that done a few times because the first time was not successful. I know the procedures were done as an outpatient as she never stayed in the hospital. She is doing great now, but as I said, her eyesight is blurry in that eye. She would be in her late 60's or early 70's. Not a lot of help, but I thought you would appreciate the part about her being fine now!! She did not have any other type of cancer. this was her first experience with it.

Thank you CR, DE and Cdndaughter, I'll post with an update tomorrow with whatever news they get. I'll be at work but my older brother is coming in to town tonight so he can drive them in the morning. They were told to expect to be there 3-5 hours. My fingers and toes are crossed.

They did some vision tests and an ultrasound (?!) for my dad's eyes today and confirmed it's nothing to worry about!! They said it's a freckle behind his eye?! He has do have a followup in a year to check on it and see that it's made no changes but they think it's been there a while. His last eye checkup for glasses was three years ago though. We are all feeling so relieved and maybe for once we have a bit of the luck of the Irish with us! Thank you guys for listening and the support! *hugs* Now I can go back to worrying about how the woodpeckers are destroying our wood frame house lol
