1st colonoscopy this Friday, August 18th!

Postby ocstacy » Tue Aug 15, 2017 10:56 pm

So I am a little nervous as I had to fight real hard to get this approved by my doctor's and insurance to cover it. I had to go in for a 2nd opinion and they finally approved it. I will be doing the Prep the night before and the colonoscopy will take place Friday morning at around 8:30 a.m. I chose the propofol approach and a little nervous. Here is my background. Mother got diagnosed this past May 2017 with Stage 3A Rectal cancer. I experienced having hemorrhoids towards the end of my pregnancy about 5 years ago.

In 2014 when I was going to college full time, working two jobs and under tremendous stress. I was making very good income, and didn't want my job to interfere with my health. I chose money over health at that time cause it was nice paying off debt and taking a nice all inclusive vacation. I didn't have insurance at the time and experienced a bulging painful hemmy that got worst with over the counter medication. I went to the college medical clinic and it was so infected that the doctor gave me a rectal exam and I just bursted out crying in so much pain. He had to prescribe me this cream cause I had a rash around my rectum from infection. I remember one time just laying in the sitz tub in tears and feeling the hemmy and pulsating to my heart beat, I thought it was going to explode and prayed the pain would just go away. I had to lay in bed for several days so I could not put pressure on it by standing. Standing made it worst. Not sure why I didn't go to the ER, but the only thing that would take the pain away was some strong coating pain killer medicine and I got Proctozone and that seem to shrink it. Since then, I can control them with Tucks pads and Proctozone (HYDROCORTISONE ). I call it the "Magic cream" cause it's the only thing that works for me. I get the occasional irritation but I can control them now.

What I keep wondering is if that bulging pain was a tumor and not a hemorrhoid. I did bleed while I had a BM a little. I was so worried but nervous at the same time. I wanted to reach out to see if any of you with colorectal cancer experienced the same thing I did thinking it was a hemmy but ended up with a tumor. What were you signs and symptoms? This is nerve racking and why the heck they make you wait until 50 to get screened? They need to change it to 40 don't you think? Too many people are getting diagnosed earlier in age.

Thank you for sharing and wish me luck!! :? :| :D

I thought I had a hemorrhoid. So did my PCP. We both thought it made sense. I had started working out and eating better, so we figured it screwed up my system and was the reason for my diarrhea. The diarrhea caused me to sit on the toilet more and more, so that must have caused a hemorrhoid, which would explain the blood in the bowl. But it was all wishful thinking. I'm not saying you have a tumor by any means. There are any number of things it could be. Don't get yourself in a negative midset. Just concentrate on the prep and make sure you do it right so you can have a clean colon for your doctor to admire.

I thought I had a hemorrhoid. So did my PCP.

Ditto and Ditto, but no Diarrea here. I just have odd shaped BM's once in awhile.. like I feel like I have a polyp or something blocking it.. like hemmy's.

I wish they could just band them or cut them, I hate hemmy's! The worst pain I have ever felt in my life. Bee string, knife blade, ugh.. i hate it so much and not looking forward to them again when I pregnant with baby #2. Thank you for your support <3

Count me in the "I thought it was just a hemorrhoid" club. That's actually how I met my colorectal surgeon--was meeting him for first time to evaluate the hemorrhoid. As my tumor was butt-ing up against the anal verge he knew immediately I had more than a hemorrhoid to deal with. I literally had a colonoscopy with him the next morning and was in his office the following week to confirm it was cancerous. :( By no means does that mean yours will be a cancerous tumor, but it's great you are getting the colonoscopy so you will know definitively what you are dealing with. Good luck--hope your prep is not too harsh. I do the Miralax with lemonade flavored Gatorade and it really isn't horrible compared to others I have read on here who end up gagging over some of the various prep combinations. Will be looking for your post to let us know how it goes. Trust me, you will actually enjoy being knocked out for the short bit, it is so quick and painless how it happens and then you wake up and you're in recovery.

Thought mine was hemorrhoid also. I had a colonoscopy five years before and showed internal hemorrhoids. So occasionally see blood on my stool, but not always. At a general check up my pcp gave me one of those at home stool tests and I decided to do it when I didn't see blood. Well came back showing blood in stool, so sent to gastro, and another colonoscopy was in order. Dr. told me then that he was sure it was cancer and sent me to surgeon the next day. The surgeon said it had probably been there 5 years. Last colonoscopy either missed it because too small or began right after. Not that yours is cancer, but it is better to be safe than sorry. Good Luck.

ocstasy,

Most likely it's not cancer.
However such bleeding and pain is a good excuse to get colonoscopy and exclude cancer.

Today pay more attention to quality of your preparation, than to this forum.

Good luck!
Please provide an update regardless of the outcome.

Good luck on Friday. Do you have someone to drive you back home after the procedure? You may not be allowed to drive after having this type of procedure.

One more sleep!

All the best with the prep and stay focused on what you have achieved with getting your concerns
taken seriously by the docs and that they'll be an end to the uncertainty. Hoping that your
worst fears are not realized.

Yes I have my pops taking me in at 8 a.m and he will be with me. So I had a BIG MAC for dinner tonight, fries and a HALO TOP ice cream. I hope that fits the guidelines except for the seed bun which I forgot to skip. I plan to sleep in our extra bedroom with a bed side toilet commode since I know I will probably go all night long, woo hoo !! I am so excited :|  I can't believe this is happening finally. No going back now. I can't switch my mind now. This is more scarier than I anticipated. I do believe I have Polyps cause I felt one near my rectum one time. Felt like a squishy outer mole. (TMI) Only bad thing is, is that I did smoke for 8 years and that worries me a little. Well, I will keep you all posted!!! My mom ended her treatment today and my dog of 13 years left us  Boy what a day!! XX

I kinda feel the same feeling. I also get this weird pain (i know it sounds weird) but almost like pinch cramping when I'm a little constipated, I kinda feel this pain up high in my intestines,.. like a pain in between my female organs and intestines.. then the pain goes away. I had pre cancer cells for cervical cancer but my paps have been fine since I stopped smoking. I will find out more this Friday!!!

Many times, even though the symptoms are very clear, young adults are misdiagnosed or their diagnosis is prolonged due to their age. Know your body and if you are having trouble being diagnosed – don’t stop until you have answers! Over the years, here are some of the assumed diagnoses our Featured Survivors received before doctors discovered their colorectal cancer:

Hemorrhoids
Stress
Pregnancy pains
IBS
Parasite
Colitis or Crohn’s Disease
Depression and psychiatric help
Appendicitis
Spastic colon
Spiritual problems
Ulcer
Gall bladder problems
Hernia
Low fiber or poor diet
Working out too hard or too much
“Female” problems
Anal fissure
“Just a tear”
Food allergies
Gas
Lactose intolerance
