10 years ago today

Postby weisssoccermom » Thu Apr 20, 2017 9:49 pm

Ten years ago today, I had my last cancer treatment.....my excision. I know that the surgeon was preparing me for the pathology report that would likely show some residual cancerous cells but nothing showed up. It's hard to believe that almost 11 years ago, when I heard those words no one wants to hear (you have cancer), I figured I was doomed. We went on vacation right after my diagnosis and it was the WORST vacation we have ever had.

Sometimes it's hard to believe that ten years has gone by. Yesterday, our youngest celebrated his 26th birthday and my mind went back to ten years ago. On his 16th birthday, when he got his license....a birthday that should have been celebrated with his entire family, he celebrated with his two older brothers and dad because I was home prepping for surgery the next day.

Keep on reaching that goal of finding the day when cancer is no longer a part of your daily life. I admire all of you for the tenacity, strength and courage that you show each and every day. Don't let anyone tell you you can't....for me, those words made me want to PROVE THEM WRONG!

Dear Jaynee!
Congratulations!

I'm so very glad and thankful that after 10 years you're still often in the forum giving valuable information to people like me, who are beginning this journey. You are a true example of advocacy and hope for all of us.

The information you have passed on to me about dealing with some of the side effects of radiotherapy have been so helpful in making a change of course and the information you give to others about managing Chemo and going through a Local Excision is a life breeze of hope.

Thank you for your kindness and here's to NED FOREVER for you, and all of us who prove them everyday wrong :)

Keep strong,
Ana

Congratulations. For me, it has been 7+ years. I still get occasional periods of constipation followed by diarrhea. But what the hell! Tis better to be alive with bowel problems than deceased free of problems.

Dear weissoccermon (or Jaynee :) ) I have found your posts to be sensible, factual, wise, thought provoking, and just downright common sense! You are one of the ladies I very much admire on this board. I think your contributions to this forum are beyond value. I congratulate you on your dedication to keep helping other victims of this dreadful disease, your determination to challenge existing protocol, and your continued NED. :D
