Unresectable Colorectal Cancer Liver Mets - New Info

Postby CRguy » Fri Mar 31, 2017 9:29 pm

Just going to start a discussion here, as we've had some topics lately discussing the issue of having unresectable liver mets, and that being the determining factor in how patients move forward.

Hoping to get all our resident researcher's and experts in on this one... BUTT there are some studies / discussions which need wider viewing than I have seen.
I have received some info, privately, from a cancer research scientist, which is not YET in the public domain :(
BUTT .... with the help from another homie ( YOU know who you are ! ) was able to at least, get us some abstracts to start the discussion.

1. folks with "unresectable liver mets" should first check out any and all discussions from DK37 and Maia on this forum ... especially including their clinical trial search app referenced here : A DK37 CURATED MSS-CRC CLINICAL TRIAL FINDER!

2. for general info regarding checking out clinical trials you may wish to read : Some New Links for info about Clinical Trails in Canada and around the globe !

3. Do NOT hesitate to ask questions / post information for us to discuss here on forum = WE are a great resource for each other ... believe me !

NOW the info / links :

New Perspectives in the Treatment of Colorectal Metastases = a viewable pdf file which you do not need to download

Living Donor Liver Transplantation for Unresectable Colorectal Cancer Liver Metastases = a clinical trial Maia has posted previously HERE

Is Liver Transplantation an Option in Colorectal Cancer Patients with Nonresectable Liver Metastases and Progression on All Lines of Standard Chemotherapy? = abstract and references

Concise Review: Liver Regenerative Medicine: From Hepatocyte Transplantation to Bioartificial Livers and Bioengineered Grafts = abstract and references

Let's expand our horizons ...
seek out the info which we need ...
AND succeed !

Thank you for taking the time to post this. We were told that they won't go in if they can't get it all. That seems in direct contradiction to reducing tumor burden. Very confused and doing lots of research myself.

Sending you hugs, prayers, and other good tidings.

I don't know if this will help at all, but Dr originally told us dh liver Mets were unresectable. She was very positive about it. Hubby was speechless and in shock and I just panicked and begged that we try to do aggressive chemo to see if we could shrink them enough to possibly get the surgery.
She again stated that it was very aggressive and all over - not just in one area and recommended a more "comfortable" chemo (whatever that is!) I kept pushing and hubby jumped in and said he wanted to do it and she agreed to try it.
5 months later he had liver resection

I really don't know if that's possible for everyone, but I just wanted to put that here for anyone looking up "unresectable".. it never hurts to ask again... or push!

P.s. the dr was actually shocked that it worked. But maybe she'll be more likely to try with others now before telling them is not possible
