Colonoscopy after ULAR

Postby Swirdfish » Thu Jan 12, 2017 4:24 am

How long have people waited to get their second colonoscopy. Mine was never completed due to the blockage. I'm about 3 months out from surgery.

Should I be getting one ASAP or wait until chemo has finished and my reversal. I guess it's a lot harder to clean the bowel with a loop ill as they tried before surgery by installed a tube into my ill to flush it. Didn't work.

Like you my colonoscopy was never completed because PCP was afraid to go further then the tumor, worried me for awhile but my colorectal surgeon said since I get scanned every 3 months I shouldn't worry. Last appointment in Oct he said 1 year after surgery which will be in July, dx last January. I have an appointment with him the second week of February, so I'm sure we'll go over this again.
Best wishes and pray both our colonoscopies come out clean when we get them... oxo

My management of my ileostomy is good. No issues there it is very easy.

Not sure about the reversal, I've got x4 folfox treatments to go so on the second last I will get in contact with my surgeon and arrange a time. I also have to in between them get an X-ray down on the site check for leaks internal.

Is a reversal open surgery? Is it another scar?

Will be the most interesting part of it knowing how Lars will affect me.

My once says I'm doing very well and doesn't want to see me next folfox treatment. One less hospital parking ticket hehe

Hi Swird.
My surgery was March 2016, and I'm scheduled for my first colonoscopy after diagnosis in late Jan / early Feb. This was scheduled 6 months after my 2nd post-surgery follow-up. I believe about a year after is what they mentioned. If this one is clear, I think they said yearly until year 3, then every 3 years after that. CT scan is 6 months post-end-of-chemo, and if clear 1 year out, and then if clear again, maybe longer. Hope this helps! :)
