My mom has metastatic colon cancer and has been told she is out of options other than clinical trials. Her doctor offered the MATCH trial, but I've been doing a lot of reading on the immunotherapy trials. Do you have any idea how I could know when this trial would start recruiting? Could you give me any more information on the Atezo/Cobi trial you mentioned in another reply? Thanks so much!!!
Hi Amyjost,
Although this trial is still showing up as not yet recruiting on the web page - these webpages are often slow to be updated. If you are interested in this trial, I would immediately (as in today) email:
herbert.hurwitz@duke.edu. (the PI of the trial as listed in the contact section of the webpage and ask 1.) The anticipated start of the trial 2.) If it is possible to be placed on a wait list for it. He may run more than one trial, so reference the NCT# of the trial in your email.
In terms of the Ateo/Cobi trial that one has been very popular and they are almost out of slots and have switched over to a waitlist system. Once again, if you ae interested, I would call TODAY to try to get your place in line. This trial is a bit special in that both drugs (Cobi & Atezo) are commercially available and FDA-approved for other (non-CRC) cancers. This has set up a situation where I know multiple people that have been able to receive the drugs "off-label" outside of trial. In some cases where their insurance paid for th drug(s) and in others where Genentech offered them via compassionate use. There is paperwork involved and the first step would be your oncologist prescribing the drugs, submitting for insurance and seeing what they say. If denied, then the options are to appeal the denial using the ASCO-2016 abstract data and also approaching Genentech with a compassionate use request.
I hope that helps!
