Genetic Counseling Appointment

Postby DarknessEmbraced » Tue May 24, 2016 12:40 pm

I had my genetic counseling appointment via video conferencing. It will take a week for the medical release forms that I need to sign and send back. One of them is to give permission for the genetic testing center to have slides of my tumor. Another is for blood samples. The tumor testing will take a month and they will be looking if the tumor has characteristics of Lynch Syndrome. if it does then they will do DNA testing on my blood. If I do have Lynch Syndrome then they would recommend removing my ovaries and fallopian tubes. I am also going to sign release forms for them to have access to the pathology, surgical reports of my parathyroid surgeries for testing for Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia. That syndrome can make someone predisposed to developing various cancers.

I just got back from seeing my oncologist and she recommended genetic testing for me. Good luck to you. It's a little bit stressful! I've been NED for a long time (eight years) and I've gotten used to not worrying so much (almost like before cancer). Now I'm back on Google and freaking myself out. I'm putting a stop to that now though. My appointment is not until August and there is no way I'm going to allow myself to obsessively research and stress out about it.

I hope your appointment goes well and that your results are good!

NED ever since
I used to have an account under "Dori," but I've lost access to it.

Thank you! I know it will take a while for the tumor testing and even longer for DNA testing. I hope your appointment goes well. I hope that I don't have Lynch Syndrome or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia.(MEN). I've been NED since surgery November 20th, 2014 but I didn't find out really find out until after my yearly ct scans October 2015. Yes best not to google. I had already researched MEN and Lynch Syndrome. Also we talked about it during my appointment.
