lymph nodes mets

Postby bluebird » Thu Mar 31, 2016 9:05 am

Hello,

one question, if chemotherapy is working, is it possible that lymph nodes mets will disappear?

Yes, it's possible.
DH - dx Dec 2014, stage IV with bladder & peritoneal involvement - non-resectable
Colostomy
FOLFOX failed
FOLFIRI failed
Tumor actually distending pelvic skin
Not a candidate for last-ditch pelvic exenteration
Stivarga finally begun 2/19/16
Tumor growing/fungating
Lonsurf started 11/18/16

We hoping next scan for my Dad will show lymph nodes normal. My Dad had extensive spread from abdo-neck lymph nodes. At diagnosis he was estimated as 12-18 months to live. His response was amazing. One of his nodes measured 20mm & after few rounds of chemo it had shrunk to 5mm. He did 40 cycles of chemo & there was no sign of cancer in last scan. He has been off chemo for a few weeks, due for scan this month which will be 3 months no chemo so will be a biggie to see if lymph nodes still ok. He is feeling great & really hope he has truely kicked cancers butt.
Dad diagnosed Sept 14 Stage IV. Age 57yrs. Transverse colon - spread to Retroperitoneal, Mesenteric & Supraclavicular lymph nodes. Folfiri commenced Sept 14.
April 15 - Bowel resection
August 15, stable scan
Feb 16 - No signs of cancer on scan...stop chemo & scan in 3 month
Scan April 16, Crazy growth to stomach, lymph nodes & multiple mets to liver. Commencing Folfox.
August: chemo not working. Stopped treatment.
September 3rd 2016 peacefully left this earth.

I also had mets to my abdo-neck lymph nodes like the previous post.

I started on Immune therapy with chemo and after 3 sessions I am NED.

I am still on chemo at this stage and should soon be going to maintenance chemo.

I truly hope it never comes back. I feel awesome on my good days and I want more of that and living life again.

Fabulous news Felicitym23, so delighted to hear.

I am in the same place (but have rising CEA concerns).

Praying for you that NED will last forever.

Shan I hope the numbers come down.

My oncolgyist is not too concerned about my CEA levels because he said colon cancer can't always be predicted by those numbers. They are too unreliable.

Good luck my friend. Its hard not being in control of this journey.

We've tracked both CEA and CA199 with daily chemo for over six years, intensified with milder drugs (e.g. celecoxib, cimetidine) and specialized supplements to keep the lymph nodes suppressed at small sizes. When 5FU levels or the other items get too low, the CEA and/or CA199 go up fast! So we track those markers and others more frequently than most here, 3 weeks, to 2 months recently, still on uninterrupted chemo. We now live over an hour's drive further away from the lab tech's collection route and that stretches the bloodwork frequency.

Daily chemo with mild drugs and immune building supplements doesn't whack out the blood work like Folfox/Folfiri and still seems to clear some nodes or mets over time. Elevated CA199 levels are clues to whether cimetdine with 5FU helps.
