Colon Cancer Companion book

Postby CRguy » Thu Nov 05, 2015 12:50 am

I have not spent a lotta time at Colon Cancer Canada but just reviewed their updated website and found a reference which could be a great benefit... especially to someone just starting to get into the nitty gritty of a CRC diagnosis.

It is an information book with itemized pages for journalizing treatment information, appointments, test results etc.

Available as hardcopy thru the site or as a free download, if anyone is interested
My Colon Cancer Companion

and while it addresses the Canadian patient, the overall format would be useful for anyone, including caregivers.

Best wishes

My Colon Cancer Companion

Thanks CRguy. I wished I'd had something like this when I was diagnosed. It recaps a lot of the information you get from various sources and seems very good to get you started on the path.
Rectal cancer dx 04/13 @ 42, MSS, KRAS positive
T3N2M1 (1 lung met)
5 weeks xeloda+radiation finished 07/13
APR 9/13 (permanent colostomy), 27/31 nodes positive :-(
12 rounds of FOLFOX 04/14
Lung met growth 11/14
26 cycles Regorafenib (Stivarga) from 11/15 to 01/17
New lung met and chest/neck lymph nodes 01/17
1 cycle Folfiri

I agree ... it puts all the info and "thought processes" into a neat framework which can then be expanded and modified as needed.
It kind of lays out a set of guideposts for someone who has no idea "where they are headed"...
BUTT then ... who among us really knows that anyway, sometimes :?:

A Vancouver biotech company is currently offering the first 1500 people free gene testing with its new cancer genome test. It started taking applications this week. It's open to all Canadians not just BC. You can't be currently NED, they are hoping to assist those who are about to start treatment or need to switch treatment. Company returned my call within 24 hours. When it eventually becomes available to the public it will cost us about $1,000 to have it done. The woman I spoke to said its the largest scale this has been done here. It's not limited to just Crc folks. Check out the website of Contextual Genomics http://contextualgenomics.com for more info on the application etc.

GREAT find Steph !!!!!
Thanks for the info
We've had newsbites around here (BCCA / Vancouver / news feeds) about "some" genome testing / protocols / packages etc.
..... BUTT this is the first full scale rollout of what we need to see MORE OF !!!!!

Oh BTW did I say I am really liking this :
02/16- cea 2.4, normal ct

Cheers, Harmony and many more "normals" coming your way !

I had to look at the tiger a few times to take in everything. It would take a lot of courage to walk around like that.

Thank you, Steph!

What a great sounding initiative by Contextual Genomics and the Canadian National Access Program Cancer Genomics Test, especially as it may be free (albeit for only the first 1,500)! :o

I have just sent off a note to my oncology team asking them to take a look and see if they can refer me if I qualify. With no treatments started yet, I really believe I could benefit from such a service..

As a fairly new arrival to both - actually having CRC DX and The Colon Club - I am so grateful for all the resources accessible through this platform and forum here. Thank you for sharing, and congrats on your recent and positive news! I already feel better about the journey ahead, having you all as a community to travel with!

Needless to say, I am digging the tiger too!
