NEJM: Potential Stage 2 CRC Biomarker for Chemotherapy Use

Postby DK37 » Fri Jan 22, 2016 7:35 am

A potentially very important new finding showing a biomarker that appears predictive of Stage 2 patients that would significantly benefit from chemotherapy. Findings were based upon retrospective analysis, prospective clinical trials have not been done yet. First link = news article. Second link = article from the New England Journal of Medicine. http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/857470 and http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa1506597

DK,

Thanks so much for posting this. I was staged IIA but I got adjuvant chemo because my tumor was medullary which is rare and I had lymphovascular invasion. The medullary tumor was the driver. I just pulled my pathology report and I was CDX2 positive. While I have a number of residual side effects from the chemo and I wanted to take every step I could to keep the disease from returning (I never regretted doing it), I wonder with this study if it would have been recommended. I am thrilled to see this kind of research. It certainly seems like it will put another tool in the box for stage II folks.
