Honestly, I was a little surprised when I got the letter in the mail saying that I was due for a mini flex sig in October, but I dutifully made the appointment for yesterday and went in. Spent the night in Seattle at our condo...no way I was going to try and drive up early in the morning for a 7:45am check in!!
After they admitted me and put me through all the questions, etc. my surgeon came in and asked me what was going on that brought me in to her. What type of problems was I having? WHAT? I told her that her office said I was supposed to be there and she replied with, 'oh you don't need to be in for another colonscopy until 2018'...to which I replied...'I have already done the 'prep' (two enemas) and she WAS doing the mini flex sig so let's get it over with'.
Everything was fine....clean, no polyps, barely any scar left from my excision and hardly any visible radiation damage. Dr. couldn't believe it has been 9.5 years since my diagnosis and almost 9 years since my surgery. Told me that I am DONE with these mini scopes unless I experience a problem. All I have to see her for are the once every 5 year full colonoscopies ....and unless she finds some polyps, I will stay on that schedule. No more CT scans, no more onc visits, now no more surgeon visits, CEA's are finally done.....I guess I'm totally done with the whole cancer journey although I don't think I will ever let my guard down again.
I'm actually more nervous about DH's scope on the 18th....will breathe a little better when he is all done and we know that nothing is wrong with him.
