unknown cause of fever

Postby midlifemom » Sat Jul 11, 2015 3:29 pm

Hi all, hope everyone is having some good today.

I woke up this morning with a fever of 101.4.
Butt, I had plans, so took two Motrin and ignored it.
I know, I'm not supposed to ignore fevers, BUTT I didn't want to spend the day in the emergency room like I did 2 months ago!

What happened two months ago, was 9 days after fullfury infusion, I woke up with temp of 101. Like a dutiful patient, I called into Kemeny's office and followed their direction to go to my local onc for blood and urine work. NOTHING was found. It was a wasted day and I had had some pretty good plans for that day. The fever disappeared on its own after about six hours.

Today is ten days after last infusion. I get Neulasta injections every two weeks so my wbc is always fine. I checked my temp at the six hour mark, figuring the Motrin most likely had worn off. Temp was 99.5. Now, ten hours later, Motrin definitely gone, temp is 99.

My question, has anyone had similar scenario? Did the fevers ever stop? Or was a cause ever found?

Thanks for your input.

Don't have any advice regarding the fever. Bumping this to the tops in hopes that someone else who had the same issues can offer advice.

Take care,

I get those fevers time to time after treatment. Never can find a reason. Bloodwork always okay. I used to go to the ER but now I just give it a little time and it usually goes away. But that's just me. Do what you think is best.

My husband has been having "tumor fevers". Some tumors produce substances which elevate body temp. Other times, fever can be caused by tumor lysis (tumor death), which would be good news. These fevers can come and go during the course of a few hours or days, but they are not signs of infection.
Husband IIIC;
7/12 - resection; 12 rounds folfox
CT/PET scans 4/13, 9/13 - NED
CT scan 3/14 - liver/LN mets
5/2/14- failed liver resection - peri. mets.
6 rounds of iri/avastin
8/26/14 - failed liver resect/HIPEC. dse. progression
9/14 - 3/15 - progression on chemo
3/23/15 - treatment stopped; working the bucket list

Thanks all, I'm going with the tumor lysis theory!

You might consider keeping a diary when this happens in relation to your treatments duration etc, and discuss with you oncologist. Another thing that came to mind was early onset menopause, which can occur with women undergoing chemotherapy. Could this be a hot flash?

Just some thoughts.

Thanks Grouseman for diary suggestion. I will document this.
