Stage 1. One tan sessile polyp measuring 1.2 x 0.9 x 0.7 cm. Adenocarcinoma, invasive at least into the sub-mocosa found during an early colonoscopy age 41.They obtained clear margins removing a piece 3cm in diameter out of my rectal wall with Trans-anal Endoscopic Micro Surgery using a 40mm operating procto scope, found no cancer in what they removed, and I was done. One day hospital stay, I was back at work in a few days, no exercise for a week, my butt hurt for two weeks if I didn't eat the pain killers they gave me, and I was tired for a while longer. Alternating flexible sigmoidoscopies and endorectal ultrasound every 3 months for 2-3 years, then every 6 months for the rest of 5 with blood draw for CEA/liver function tests. First follow-up colonoscopy in 1 year and we'll see how it goes.
July 2014 stage 1 RC t1n0m0 age 41
August 2014 TEMS
September 2015 scope one diminutive hyperplastic polyp

Stage 2 rc t3/n0/m/0 not enough margin to save sphincter, so 5/28/15 had rectum removed and anus sewed shut. It's been a really rough road for me, but my colorectal surgeon said I'm among 8% of his patients with so many complications. I'm feeling better every day at this point. Next step, adjuvant chemo. Can't wait to have this behind me. Anxiety meds prescribed, but I haven't been that anxious or depressed. I'd say at my worst, I'm disturbed. Sending best wishes to you.

Stage IIA rectal cancer. Take a look at my signature.....I'm 9 years out from diagnosis and doing ok. For the most part, no issues here. I had to fight for the surgery that I wanted but other than that I did ok with everything.
Still have followups....scopes are now on the '5 year plan' unless I have a problem.
In the beginning though, lots of followups.
Just take it one day at a time and try not to overthink everything or spend hours on the internet googling all sorts of things about rectal cancer. You'll drive yourself nuts in the process.

Lydia, You should anticipate that you will be around to take care of that baby. And raise him/her.

We provide encouragement, as I am now 7 years past my initial treatments. You see from my name that, from the beginning I was confident I would be cured. My Surgeon said "we're going to fix this". My tumor was "like an iceberg" in that neither the colonoscopy nor a rectal ultrasound could tell the extent of it; as it pierced the mucosal wall and had a greater mass on the other side. But all was removed and with clear margins. But since it reached the lymph nodes, I was Stage III.
But am fine now.

A positive attitude helps a lot, but we never suggest that you do not carefully consult with your doctors.

Best wishes for leaving this behind.

Stage 2a rectal, here, but no sign of cancer since my LAR operation 9 1/2 years ago. The cancer never was a big problem for me.

Hey guys, PET scan says it's mot at other organs but the nodes are too small to determine. Is that right?
