For days after death hair and fingernails continue to grow, but phone calls taper off.

I don't mind dying, the trouble is you feel so bloody stiff the next day.
I hate funerals and would not attend my own if it could be avoided.

Now that I don't have Mrs Frenchies trusty clock to let me know if I survived another
day, I rely on the newspaper. I get my daily paper, look at the obituaries page and
if I'm not in there ,I carry on as usual.
I have never wished anyone harm or death, but there are a few obituary notices I
have read with pleasure.

If no one knows when a person is going to die, how can they say he died prematurely?
Life is pleasant. It is a brief intermission between life and death. Death is peaceful. It's the transition that's troublesome.

There are worse things in life than death. Have you ever spent an evening with an
insurance salesman ?

A friend of mine stopped smoking, drinking, overeating and chasing women all at the
same time......it was a lovely funeral.

Our time here on earth is so brief in the concept of time. Death reminds me of a falling star. One of a million lights in a vast sky that flares up for a brief moment, only to disappear
into endless night forever.

Death is not the end if we can live on in our children and the younger generation. Death
Is a distant rumour to the young.

No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don't want to die to get there.
Death is the destination we all will share. No one has ever escaped it.
That is as it should be. Death is likely the single best invention of life. It is life's change
agent . It clears out the old to make way for the new.

As you lie back your muscles tighten. You put him off for a while searching for an excuse, but he refuses to be swayed as he approaches you.

He asks if you’re afraid and you shake your head bravely. He has had more experience, but it’s the first time his finger has found the right place.

He probes deeply and you shiver; your body tenses; but he’s gentle like he promised he’d be.

He looks deeply within your eyes and tells you to trust him-he’s done this many times before.

His cool smile relaxes you and you open wider to give him more room for an easy entrance. You begin to plead and beg him to hurry, but he slowly takes his time, wanting to cause you as little pain as possible. As he presses closer, going deeper, you feel the tissue give way; pain surges throughout your body and you feel the slight trickle of blood as he continues. He looks at you concerned and asks you if it’s too painful. Your eyes are filled with tears but you shake your head and nod for him to go on. He begins going in and out with skill but you are now too numb to feel him within you.

After a few moments, you feel something bursting within you and he pulls it out of you, you lay panting, glad to have it over. He looks at you and smiling warmly, tells you, with a chuckle; that you have been his most stubborn yet most rewarding experience.

You smile and thank your dentist. After all, it was your first time to have a tooth pulled!

Whenever you read a cancer booklet or website or whatever, they always list depression as a side effect of cancer. In fact, depression is not a side effect of cancer. Depression is a side effect of dying.

The good part about dying is that when you have nothing to lose, you can run any risk you want. I eat everything the docs told me not to. It may affect me months from now. I am
banking on the fact that I will not be around long enough for it to make a difference.

It's not that we have to die some day. It's how many things we have to quit all at once.
Music, laughter, the scent of rain, the color of the sky, coffee, literature etc.
If only we could leave this life slowly.

Here is a question that I have asked myself more than once lately.
How is it that one careless match can start a forest fire, but it takes a whole box to start a campfire ??

Worring works ! 90 % of the things I worry about never happens !!

I was also wondering if an atheist can get insurance for an act of God ??

Out for a walk the other day, I noticed a little old man rocking in a chair on a porch.
" I can't help noticing how happy you look " I said, " what is the secret to your long and
happy life ? "

"I smoke 3 packs a day" he replied, " I also drink a case of whisky a month, eat fatty foods
and never exercise."
" That's amazing " I said, " How old are you ? " 26 he replied.

I tried to teach my son the evils of alcohol. I put one worm in a glass of water and one
in a glass of whisky.
The worm in the water lived, while the one in the whisky curled up and died.
" All right son " I said, " What does that show you ? "
" Well dad " he said, " It shows that if you drink alcohol, you will not have worms "

My energy level has dropped significantly since I started weining off Dex. I feel great
otherwise, no ackes or pain except for my left knee which has bone cancer now. Even
that is minimal.

Nowadays, there's a pill for everything. To keep you regular. To keep your heart beating,
To keep your hair from falling out. To stop your nose from running. Why, thanks to advances in medical science, every day people are dying who never looked better.

My wife never lies about her age. She tells everyone she's as old as I am, then she lies
about my age.

There is a veterinarian and a taxidermist in business together here. Their slogan is:
" Either Way, You Get Your Pet Back "

I went to the bank and reviewed my savings. I found that I have all the money I'll ever
need, if I die tomorrow. The teller told me " you never write, you never call, you only
visit when you need money " the sign above her read " to err is human, to forgive is not
bank policy "

I won again at the casino so I rushed home and told my wife " pack up your things, I
just won big. " shall I pack for warm weather or cold " she asked.
" I don't care" I said, " just as long as your out of the house by noon "

I fancy myself a ladies man. I decided to flirt with a comely waitress.
" So tell me sweetheart, where have you been all my life ? " I crooned.
" Actually sir, " she pointed out sweetly, " for the first forty five years of it, I wasn't
even around. "

I can't help myself, I have to pass on some wisdom of a very colourful man who is our neighbour at our lake place in BC. His language could curl your hair.

True stories from him.

His doctor thought he was a very healthy 92 year old considering he drank and smoked. The doctor noted he wasn't on any medication so he asked him how he slept. He said, I have a shot of whiskey every night before bed, seems to work I sleep just fine. The doctor asked about indigestion or stomach problems, he said no I take the bitters (German herb mix 40% alcohol), the doctor said what else do you drink, he said well I drink red wine because I heard that it was equivalent to working out at the gym, if I have a cold or flu I drink warm brandy, I put vodka in my orange juice. The doctor listen while he went on and the doctor said, so when do you drink water? He said, I have never been that sick.

On talking to him a couple of weeks ago I was mentioning that I couldn't believe it was already 9 years since my father had passed away. I said time seems to be really flying fast the older I get. He gave me the best life analogy I ever heard. He said it was like a roll of toilet paper, really slow in the beginning, seems to take forever to get a piece but then near the end it starts to unravel really fast.

“A doctor and his wife were having a big argument at breakfast.
He shouted at her, "You aren't so good in bed either!" then stormed off to work.
By mid-morning, he decided he'd better make amends and called home.
"What took you so long to answer?" he asked.
"I was in bed," she replied.
"What were you doing in bed this late?" "
Getting a second opinion.”
