Anyone else take Dicetel?

Postby DarknessEmbraced » Thu Apr 30, 2015 4:28 pm

After my colonoscopy my surgeon prescribed an antispasmodic medication called Dicetel(pinaverium bromide). It's designed to relax the smooth muscles of the colon. I'm prescribed one 50mg tablet 3 times a day. I take it with food and lots of water. Because it can irritate the throat and esophagus I can't lay down for 10 minutes after taking it. Not that I lay down after eating anyway. So far it has really helped. No more cramping or spasms. I am still boated but I think that might be due to the metamucil. I'm trying one tablespoon a day for a while since I had so many problems with it the last time. I think the Dicetel may have made me a little sleepy. The earlier dose didn't but I'm tired all the time regardless. Has anyone else taken Dicetel? What are or were your experiences with it?

Hi DE,

I don't take Dicetel but I wanted to tell you that I switched from metamucil to citronel caplets and that has made a huge difference in bloating and gas.

I looked it up and it might not be available in Canada. Is Benefiber any good? So far the dicetel has been working. I haven't had a bowel movement since Tuesday my prep day but maybe that's normal.

Have you ever just tried plain old psyllium? Not been fiber or Metamucil, but the stuff that makes your drink or whatever get thick in about 5 seconds? I stir it into a cup of yogurt and then chew my way through. Works the best for me to bulk things up and for my husband who suffers from chronic constipation. He mixes his with OJ....

Yes it is, but in a different form and doesn't give me gas. Just a suggestion.

Do you have to get it a specialty store?
