Advance Screening - Emperor of All Maladies (Ken Burns)

Postby DK37 » Fri Feb 27, 2015 2:13 pm

I just wanted to post that I had the privilege of attending last night an advance screening of the upcoming 6-hour Ken Burns PBS mini-series on Cancer "The Emperor of All Maladies" http://cancerfilms.org/

They only showed a 45 minuted excerpt of the 6 hours but based upon those 45 minutes (and the wonderful book which is the basis for the film), the excerpt I saw was a beautifully done film - brutally honest but also so much filled with HOPE with all the incredible therapy advances currently being made. For example, the interviews & day-by-day footage of the first child to receive the amazing CAR-T immunotherapy had me holding my breath.

I highly recommend watching the mini-series and telling friends/family about it as well! I was moved to tears by it - tears at the sad parts and tears of hope in those parts... A stunning film and a great information resource on all the many aspects of cancer.

The first two episode (Mon-Tues) although very well done are more historical.

If you can only watch one episode - I believe the Wednesday night episode is the most HOPE-filled one for patients/caregivers to watch since it focuses on some (just some since there have been so many - did you see 60 Minutes viral therapy last night?!) of the major breakthroughs in cancer treatment in recent years (21st century).
