Surgery Monday UPDATE
So the big day is almost here and I am getting nervous. I have read to try to walk as soon as I can, and chew gum and am taking cimetidine. Any other advice for me going in? Also is there anything helpful to have with me at the hospital other than books, ipod etc to keep me occupied. The surgeon said I will be in for 4 days or so, but I keep reading about peopke in for over a week. My only hospital stays before were for my c sections and although the reason was good I really hated being in there.

I have a hospital list on my phone.
Additions for him that help his comfort after surgery are:
1. heating pad (back pain)
2. small fan that clips to IV pole
3. Charmin (they typically have very rough paper)
4. Flushable wipes (he likes cottonelle)
5. Soft mints--nurses appreciate those too
6. Puffs--their tissues are rough
7. Air freshener for bathroom
8. Small hair dryer (for me as well as him)

Small extension cord for cell phone and my own soft blanket were lifesavers suggested by fellow clubbers. Just be sure to wash the blanket in hot water after you get home. Good Luck.

Good luck with your surgery Monday! I found a robe and slippers very helpful while in the hospital because they helped me feel more comfortable walking around the ward. Please let us know how it goes. Sending positive thoughts your way!

Congrats on finally making it to surgery! I actually found mine to be less difficult than expected. I hated being in the hospital for childbirth too, but it's easier when you have only yourself to worry about. My best advice is to bring your comfy pillow from home so you can get some decent sleep. Hospital pillows suck.

Agree. I brought a long thin bathrobe (Arizona heat) and good pair (padded) slippers. In my hospital, if you didn't bring your own robe you walked the halls with the back door open.
Good luck Monday, post when you can and yes walk walk those halls.

Good luck with your surgery. I found chap stick helpful too. And yes walk , walk , walk that's all they want you to do. I also never seen people so happy that you pass gas ! Here is to a speedy recovery.
