Thinning the herd

Postby KWT » Wed Feb 18, 2015 11:25 am

Does anyone really believe that there is a cure in the future? Maybe Cancer is just natures little way of keeping the earths population down.

I'm not saying they shouldn't try. But wouldn't the earth become quite crowded without it? It is "stinking thinking" I agree.

exaussie, that's a great link. I often wonder why we're trying so hard when in actuality our lives are barely a blip in time. if I was completely cured tomorrow in the "blink of an eye" I'll 80 years old an on the way out anyhow

I wonder if human beings dissapeared of the face of the earth, would anybody miss us?

I tend to think there will be treatment options so cancer will become more like a chronic illness, and the treatment options will be EXPENSIVE. BUTT that's what insurance is for. At least here in the US. :|

I dunno Kenny, but I'm going to bump up that thread on those two OHSU docs & the climb in case anyone wants to check their progress on FB. There's at least two that believe in research.
I'll cop to being disappointed in the immnunotherapy trials for our members so far, but speculation is we're about two years out.

No, I don't believe there will ever be a real cure for cancer. I do believe that with all the research being done on cancer that somebody will eventually come across somthing that will make it managable. Somebody else just posted that it will become just another chronic illness - I agree with that - more managable than it is now but with the person forever. BUT we can always dream big :D

I'm with you, Kenny -- hoping for better treatments but accepting of our overall (lack of) importance to Nature as individuals.

I've come to view Hope as being just as dangerous to my mental health as Fear. Just accepting What Is makes things better for me. But there are those days...

I sure don't believe we are anywhere close to a good management drug for us. Two years? That would mean something would have been in the pipeline for a decade. If something gets going in two years, I'll be long gone before it makes it out. Sound like stinking thinking? I've lived the reality too long to a) not feel gratitude for the time I've gotten and b) believe much hype.

I now formally declare/request a ban on the term "stinking thinking". I have always hated that term. Among other reasons - in my version of the American accent the words don't rhyme. That sort of thing really bothers me ha ha. Now continue with your regularly scheduled discussion. Nevermind the cranky guy on day 2 of the Folfiri cycle.

For me it's "stinking thanking". It also bugs me because really awful "motivational" speakers sometimes use it ha.

Yes - we dropped Irinotecan tp 85% and he also reduced the 5fu somewhat. Not perfect but better.
