Extreme bloating, gas, and pain after eating

Tonight after eating dinner I immediately became so bloated that I look pregnant. I'm very gassy, and have really bad cramping. I think it might have been the peanuts I ate even though they didn't bother me yesterday. I will have to avoid them now to see if it helps. I'm more bloated on the left which is where my anastomosis is located. I've had foods give me bloating before but nothing to this extent. Has anyone else experienced this?

I'm not familiar with anastomosis, but before I was even diagonsed, for months I have had similar problems, feeling bloated, gas, cramps on occasion, upper ab pain right under my ribs even with small amounts of food or drink. Hoping that will eventually go away now, not sure if it's from the cancer or other things causing it, but I do know somewhat how you feel.

I had symptoms like this before surgery but not bloating to this extent.

I have not had surgery yet, in 3 months I will. I think I have heard of this, hopefully someone who has has surgery can help or maybe call your surgeon.

food choices are very much important after surgery. look for you food and symptoms if any, and if it causes uncomfortable just avoid it.

Darkness, I forget, are you taking chemo yet? I'm almost 3 years post op and I experience many of the symptoms you describe. The fact that the colon was respected and I going chemo, I never know the cause. I don't have bloating so much but diarrhea which is chemo induced. I've had horrible smelly gas since my resection. I'm drinking kefir now in an effort to replace some of the gut flora from extended periods of being on antibiotics. It's a vicious cycle. Hope you get relief.

No chemo. My oncologist didn't recommend it. I've had incredibly smelly gas since surgery too. It feels like my dinner is moving very slowly through my digestive system. I get lots of constipation.

Did your doctor put you on a low residue diet after surgery? I was on one for two weeks after surgery and tolerated food well so he advanced my diet at two weeks. I eased into other foods to make sure I could handle anything with fiber. You might want to eliminate foods that bother you until you are fully recovered.

My surgeon never put me on a low residue diet after leaving the hospital. He said I could eat a normal diet. I've been taking note of foods that bother and avoiding them. As I write this I'm still very bloated and uncomfortable.

I tried Kefir after surgery, but dairy didn't agree with me, even if it was cultured first. VSL3 is a nuclear powered probiotic, and it has made all the difference in the world for me with regard to gas and digestion. It took about 3 weeks to see definitive results, and I've never been without it since. I also take Citrucel fiber capsules, as well as eat a lot of soluble fiber and a small salad daily. I had to start slowly and add new foods in as I healed. Altogether, it's made my life better than it was, even if it's still a challenge some days. VSL3 is available in my pharmacy, they keep it in a refrigerator. It's expensive, but it's worth every penny to me. It might be something to try.

I do remember it taking it at least a month or so for the gas they blow you up during the surgery to go away so you may be having effects from both.

Darkness, if you are not doing adjuvant chemo then please be adamant in follow up scans and blood work.

Still have been having some bloating and a little nausea today. Because of that I have eaten very little and have tried to be careful what I do eat. I've been trying all day to get a hold of my surgeon's office with no answer. My surgeon is in his office during the morning but in the afternoon he's in surgery at the hospital. His secretary may be waiting for him to call her back.
