No erbitux for the mutant so I guess that means less options therefore a worse prognosis?

I'm sure I oversimplified this somewhat but I think that's the short version.

KRAS mutation DOES NOT necessarily indicate a worse prognosis.

There are many stage four patients out there that were able to cut their cancer out, reached NED and have not had any type of genetic testing to determine if they were KRAS mutant or not. Yes, it is one less tool in the tool box, but it does not change standard of care.

Girl111, if I read your signature correctly and your dad is Duke's C1, I believe that corresponds to a stage 3 diagnosis. If that is true, there will be no treatment difference for your dad if he is KRAS wild or mutant. The mutation only matters for those who are stage 4 and drugs like Erbitux or Vectibix are sometimes used. Hope that helps.

Thx all .
I need to change the signature . He was stage 3 but a recent scan showed a liver met so I think that makes it stage 4 .

A more recent study showed that KRAS Mutants have faster cell creation AND faster cell turn-over, apoptosis, which is CELL DEATH and that appears to be good news. Cells might mutate quicker into bad cells but they commit suicide very quickly before becoming mets.

I didn't save the link but had posted it somewhere here a few months ago when KRAS was being discussed. More tests are needed but sounds like good news to me.

Iam stage 4, kras mutant and celebrated my sixth cancerversary yesterday. Initially I was told that it would hasten my demise but here I am six years later. I have quit trying to figure things out and just go with the flow.
