Staples vs Super Glue unscientific survey

Postby cptmac » Wed Oct 15, 2008 9:35 am

I was just curious who had what. I was super glued together, but I still see people being stapled. Thought I would take an unscientific poll.

I was stapled with both LARs. When I had my double mastectomy, I was glued. I like the glue better, I hate having staples removed.

I was stapled, and never wanted a pierced navel, however, in removing the staples, one stuck and due to that, it looks like my navel is pierced!!

Never been glued!!

I was stitched on the inside, then glued AND stapled. Then they took the staples out before I left the hospital.

I was stitched on the inside and stapled on the outside...over 50 of them, stopped counting after 50. kept a few of them. Still got the tiny staple marks down each side of the scar.

Staples here, i believe around 40 or so.
i joked if i could have a couple shots of tequila prior to the nurse removing the staples.
She was kind enough to offer a "relaxant" and came back about 45 mins
later to pull'em all out.

For my 2 c-sections I was glued - for my tumor removal surgery - which runs perpendicular to the c-section scar, I was stapled. In the end - the scars are very similar in appearance.

Okay... so I didn't have surgery where I'd need staples/glue for my cancer... I was super glued for my port... but my first baby was a c-section and I was stitched... (1983)... my appendectomy (1994) was stapled, my hysterectomy (1996) I was stapled... and then my port was super glued...

I like the super glue but I don't know about an abdominal super glue... I would think I would be constantly worried about everything falling out!! I remember that I felt like everything was going to fall out just after my c-section and hysterectomy!!

LOL!!!

Hmmm....
internal dissolving stitches where needed
external stitches which had to be removed for JP drains (3 surgeries) and some of the ostomy work
and external staples, for 3 surgeries...

Highest staple count was 316 (primary tumor removal, colostomy, right angle liver resection scar and HAI pump implantation.

Standard joke to doctors--wouldn't a zipper have been more efficient?

Right now it's Staples 2----Glue 1. I just found out today that I need another hernia repair in the very near future....probably early November. I would imagine that Glue will tie it up at 2 apiece. I think my 6 pack abs are made out of plastic. The nice thing about staples is that it leaves a more impressive scar...more to talk about when you show up on the beach wearing a Speed-o.

Best wishes to all,
Terry Miller
